Norm,

I've heard that the P-38 bolt is too short to bend. Let me know what you think. There is a guy on ebay (probably not for much longer) that sells a bent bolt for MN's. You send him your bolt body, and he will do a straight down bend or something like a 60 degree back swept.

Well Norm be creative and make a forward swept downward bend like the French MAS 39...I love that rifle and I just don't know why!!!

If you're not careful you just mike have another side business modifying bolts!

SOOOOOOO MEAN! Accurate but still sooooooo mean... :D

I just wish the ammo was more readily available and less expensive (I do not and refuse to start reloading). Becasue I have found several very nice condition MAS 39/51 (?not sure of the 51?) but with the grenade launcher for around $200. And even saw a Gunbroker listing for a MAS39 for $325 (?).

There is just something about it, even a local gun shop (one of the best in my area) have one pictured on their website with the caption..."don't have any but they sure are nice to look at."

someone say you can't bend a M 39 bolt

here it is in pix
lock it up in a vise
Image

heat bolt all around where you want to bend tell it gets cherry red, take a crescent wrench and slowly bend tell you get the desired bend keeping the torch on the bolt at all times , do not try to bend if you lose the cherry red

buff bolt with a fine wire wheel on slow speed

I didn't even have to take the bolt apart

Would there be any question of annealing a critical part of the bolt?
