P-64 disconnector

Post by Gordyf »

Hi all from Hawaii :hi:

Just joined, but have been a follower for a while.
Recently changed the recoil and main spring on my P-64.
What a difference!! Way more manageable.
While I had it apart though, I was looking at it under the lighted magnifier and noted file marks on the disconnector.
I remember a post someplace on these pages that detailed filing the disconnector as a fix for something, but CRS disease has set in and I can't remember what it was.
The pistol functions great and if we were allowed, here in Paradise, it would be my choice to carry.

Aloha

Gordy, Welcome, and glad you enjoy your newly modified P-64.

If you type this into a google search it will return all the relevant results that you are looking for: "disconnector file OR filing OR filed site:http://www.p64resource.com"

A few people report that their disconnector appears to have been filed. However I believe this may be due to: A) Gun smith fitting a new part. B) Wear on the part from use that just looks like filing.

Really unless you are replacing it with a new one that does not fit/function properly there is NO good reason to file it at home.

Keep in mind polishing is very different than filing. Some people might polish it in order to reduce friction thus improving gun function.

Thanx guys
First the marks are definitely a file cross hatch. As I mentioned, I had it under the lighted magnifier.
I was curious.
That being said, Curly1 you are dead right. It works just fine and I am not messing with it.

Sounds like it must have been a fitting issue in that case. Do you know if you are the first owner of it since entering the U.S. or did you buy it used?

You're probably right. A fitting issue. I got it from AIM about a year ago and am probably the first
American owner. As I said, it ain't broke, so I ain't gonna fool with it.
