I got a new .22 Mag today. A bolt action Savage with heavy barrel. I'm looking for a good scope to put on it in the $100 range (no problems with a bit more or bit less in price.) I picked up a Nikko Stirling AO IR 3-9x40 for $100 at the place where I got the gun, but when I got home and looked at reviews it didn't seem too hot and it looks like I got taken on the price. I plan to return it tommorow and get something else. Any recomendations?
Edit: Oh yeah are the rings a big deal if it's getting mounted on a .22 mag? Will the $10 weaver rings they sell at Walmart do ok on it?

Hi Seldon14,
I would go with a Leupold 6X scope if you can find one at a resaonable price.
I sold my boss a Winchester .22 magnum lever action rifle and a Leupold 6X scope. He used it to hunt coyotes up in Vermont and had good luck with the 6X power over the standard 4X scopes that were available for $10-$25 less. Sgt P.

I returned the Nikko Stirling and got a Nikon Prostaff with BDC from another place for $160ish plus a set of Leopuld rings for $20 and they mounted and bore sighted it for free. Got her pretty much dialed in and just need to work on my shooting now.

Seldom14,
Nikon makes great optics, either rifle scopes or binos. Just got to practice, practice, practice. I started my 3 daughters with an old Soviet heavy barrel .22LR single shot target rifle when they were young. They got so good that they could hit animal crackers
( cookies ) at 60 yards. They all have 20/19 vision. Must have gotten that from their Mom.
I was trying to get them to join the state biathalon team as they all cross country ski and shoot really well. They would have to buy their own German biathalon rifle. Ha, Ha. Sgt P.
