Taurus PT145

A couple years ago I was interested in getting a light weight carry .45acp, I looked for a long time because I wanted to actually hold it in my hand before I made a decision because being a 1911 all steel fan for over 50 years. One of the original members of this board and a person I served with in Vietnam PM me and recommended me looking at the Taurus PT145 Mllennum. I researched it and it seemed to fit my requirements for a light weight 45ACP compact.

I found this one at my local dealers, its was LNIB and asking price was $350, I believe at the time the suggest retail for a NIB was $399. My dealer let me shoot it since it was used and I fell in love with the Taurus PT145.



Its a DA only which I had to get use to being all my 1911A1's were SA, but now I like because I can carry it 10+1 with the safety off like a revolver, the fit and feel was great for me. What really impressed me was the felt recoil and muzzle flip was very light and the flip was almost non-existent and it didn't have the mag disconnect which I do not like. Weighing in a 22.6 oz empty, with a 3.25"bbl and a OAL of 6" and a sight radius of 5" with the 1 dot adjustable Heinie front and rear sights and a slim double stack magazine that held 10rds that is 3/16" slimmer than a Glock, and compared to the P-64's 6.3" OAL and its 21.9oz's and 6rd mag. Don't get me wrong, the P-64 is still my main carry but the Taurus PT145 flat turned me on. When I'm not carrying the PT145 [usually warmer weather] it usually resides at my PC desk.

So a couple years ago I entered the new gun world, looking back it was quite an adjustment at the time, but today I'm very comfortable with it, I am still contemplating getting a lazier to go on the tack rail, however, I'm still a tad old fashioned for all the new do-dads, although with my waning eye sight the lazier is starting to grow on me.

I agree these are good guns. I have the 9mm and have run about 500 rounds through it without the first problem.

I have nothing but positive comments about my PT-111 9mm titanium. First generation DAO. Never any malfunctions.
I also carry it safety off......just like the P-64.

I've got the PT140, a great pistol. Plus Taurus really backs up their products with a lifetime warranty on the gun regardless how many owners its had.

I also like the feel of this handgun, and I'm this close to purchasing one. That said, threads on other websites mentioned the finicky mag release, which punched out the mag at the most inopportune time
Have you experienced this with yours?

Also, what type of CCW holster do you use for this pistol?

papabear, I looked at the single stack model Taurus, it fit my hand better. I was reading 'Shot Gun News' they had an article about the XD-45. Went down and looked at one, ugly as sin, but I liked the feel. Didn't have the hand issues with the XD-45, looked at a XD-40 too. My hands are not small, but stubby fingers, double stack's aren't good for me. The exception is the Browning Hi-pwr and clones. Because the trigger is is set back a little more. I don't care how many rounds you have, if can't hold on to it. What good is it? The XD-45 felt good in my hand, as usual too many want's, and not enough money.

I know this thread has been quiet for a while, but maybe one of you can help me. I read your reports on the Taurus PT 145 as well as from some other sources. Everyone seemed to agree that it was a great gun for the money. I recently stopped at Cabela's and had a chance to handle one. It was very impressive. However, the clerk told me that Taurus was really not good at fixing problems. Yes, they have a great warranty, but if something goes wrong, the guns just don't get fixed. Do any of you know anything about this?

mirother, I bought a Taurus Gaucho a couple years ago that developed a problem with the cylinder not rotating properly each time it was cocked. I called Taurus and shipped the pistol to them. About a month later, I received the pistol back and it has functioned perfectly ever since. This is the only one of my several Taurus guns that I own that has had any problems and they stood behind their warranty. I would never hesitate to buy a Taurus if it was a gun liked.

While back I had a similar problem, the cylinder on my Model 941 was binding in both double and single action. I returned it to the Taurus repair facility in Miami and they fixed and returned it to me in 2 weeks. You can find Taurus customer service horror stories on other boards, however my one and only personal experience with them was very good.
