I know that somewhere on this forum I saw a recipe for homemade gun cleaner. Now I can't find it!

You can find Greg Samplawski's formula on Makarovdotcom's website. It's in the Technical section, all the way down to the bottom of the page and after the ammo ratings.

There's always Ed's Red. It's been around quite a while.

Brownells even sells it now redi-mixed. At $7.99 for 4 oz., it's a little higher than making your own. ;)

you can actually use the eds red modified formula as well it is simply k1 kerosene, mineral spirits and atf (automatic transmission fluid) and leave out the acetone I use this mix because the acetone can be really hard on wood and I like wood stocks on my rifles
