Anyone Ride a Motorcycle?

Post by snailman153624 »

Recently got into it with a new-to-me SV650 (Suzuki v-twin naked). Despite the fall season, there are still plenty of warm days left before winter sets in :)

Also, do any of you carry while riding? Any tips or suggestions?

My driver is a Buell XB12R. I love riding, but due to the new job this year I didn't get as much in as I wanted. Its already getting cold here in Wisconsin so I put the bike away. I have carried while riding. It seems easier because of the riding gear usually has extra bulk, so it hides well. But there is nowhere to lock it up if there are places that wont allow firearms, so use a little foresight for what you might be doing.

Good point about planning ahead, although there are relatively few places where it is legally restricted in my state. I've seen plenty of folks riding around open carrying as well (again, legal here with a permit in city limits, legal even without outside of city limits).

Not sure about Buells, but the Suzuki has underseat storage that locks, but it may not be 100% watertight. I'd also hate to get it stolen along with a bike, losing one of them would be bad enough.

One of the many reasons unnecessary restrictions on "where" folks can carry really causes many to lose this freedom entirely (i.e., if you don't have a car, you have to carry it with you...which may mean you can't go certain places...which forces you to leave it at home...effectively denying you your 2nd amendment right...a.k.a. what the gun grabbers want).

The Buells have under seat storage. Mine has the least amount of them. But I always play the safe card and assume someone that wants it might see me put it in there. I usually just do n't go to places that wont let me carry. Its not always possible to avoid them, but for the most part I can.

I started riding in 1972 at age 16 with a 45 c.i. flathead Harley.

Then had a BSA 441 Victor Special that was a lot of fun until it blew up.

Then rode a Honda CB450 because it was free (I won it in a bet).

Then bought my first new bike, a 1982 Kawasaki GPz750. Gave the CB450 back to the guy that I outwitted. Rode the GPz for 14 years because it refused to break.

Then acquired a 1956 BMW R50, and then added a 1984 BMW R80G/S Paris-Dakar.

Sold the GPz and the G/S and bought a brand new 2001 Super Glide, which I'm still riding.

I also work for a company that manufactures OEM and aftermarket motorcycle accessories and we buy 10-15 new bikes every year for test fitments. I get to ride any that I want, and some of them are unbelievable machines. :D

I ride a 2009 Moto Guzzi V7 Classic. Got it via Moto International in Seattle. It's been an awesome "little" bike (750cc is now considered small)! :D

Had to give up the riding due to a stroke that left me with a major balance problem (vestibular neuritis). It broke my heart to sell my '98 Triumph Thunderbird Sport. I called it my gentleman's hooligan bike: Beautiful Tornado Red and rowdy exhaust. Trying not to cry right now. Not succeeding. :(

Sorry to hear that bud. Perhaps your condition will improve and you'll be able to get back in the saddle.
