I picked up my final P-64 yesterday from my FFL. ( I live in Maryland and in a few weeks we will have some of the wrong gun laws in the country) It is a beautiful '76 model with excellent finish and wooden grips. So I immediately field stripped it to check for oil and then headed to my clubs outdoor range for an ops check. The trigger feels like it has had work done to be a lighter pull. The previous owner has no history on it. Well, it fired and reloaded, but the hammer did not set for single action. I cocked the hammer and again a good fire with the hammer rest to DA. Has anyone knowledge about this? I'm a new P-64 owner and have experienced many adventures in ownership.
Thanks for all help

Re: DA only?
...so are you saying that the hammer stays cocked but won't fire with a trigger pull, or that it immediately falls without a trigger pull?

It immediately falls without a trigger pull. It's like it goes through a decocking mode. And maybe that's the answer. Something is wrong with the safety lever mechanism.snailman153624 wrote:...so are you saying that the hammer stays cocked but won't fire with a trigger pull, or that it immediately falls without a trigger pull?

Sounds dangerous (slam-fire like scenario comes to mind). Take the grips and slide off, and observe what it's doing when you try to cock the hammer.

Re: DA only?
When you cock the hammer, there is a small notch/spur on the bottom of the hammer that's supposed to catch the sear; you should be able to see why it's not catching.
Re: DA only?
Could be that your disconnector is not functioning properly. I know you don't know the history but if it has been replaced it may need fitting as often times the new disconnectors come a hair to tall.
Here is a thread on troubleshooting the disconnector:

NOTE: if you remove to much material from the disconnector, your safety will stop decocking or worse.
