Indent spring too long!

Post by Boston Boy »

Stripped new ('72) pistol to frame, while putting back together I ran across problem getting indent pin and spring in their place. After about 453 hours (just seemed like it) and attempt after attempt, I finally gave up and slept, hoping for the mythical solution. Next morning I Googled images of the spring and noticed that mine was too long by about four coils. Cut off the extra coils, and spring and pin went in with no trouble, plus, safety was much smoother. I thought since the pistol had little or no use, that the safety was just a bit stiff. Someone must have replaced the original spring with the longer one, perhaps at the factory--who knows? Anyway, problem solved! Pistol shoots great, as does my first one, a 1974.

Do you mean the detent & spring? I cut 1.5 coils off of mine & also got a much better safety action. Be careful, though, of cutting too much off, as it may result in a malfunction during firing; or so I've read on this forum. HTH.

Yeah, I believe in ammo. As much as I can carry."
