Nice picture. I am glad that I got a good one. Thanks fellers for the compliments on the rifle appearance. Anyway, I took it to the range tonight and got to shoot it with my reloads using the converted .30-06 cases. Didn't have any problems and they shot WONDERFUL! Wore safety glasses but didn't have any issues with gas leaking back into my face. Evidently they headspaced properly.

Photos.
50 yards, good 3-shot group.

100 yards, not awesome, but not too bad. My eyes were having a hard time focusing on the target and the sun was setting. About 2 7/8" group.

I am extremely happy with this rifle. It does appear to shoot a tad right, but I would like to shoot it with good lighting and a different target before I make that determination. :D

I may mention that I shot it twice at 100 yards. The first 3 shots that I did were the ones by the upper 10 and the one touching the 9. So that would have been a 2 inch group. The last 3 were the others to the right in the red ring. I suspect they're all in the 2" range as well, however, when I group them together then it's under 3".

Hog gun delux Jun!

Mebbe A&E will do a show on you man....call it...

Mad Hog Killer with a Mauser or Jun and His Mauser go Hog Huntin'....

You by any chance got a bucktooth idiot daughter? A&E likes that :)

Be better than Sons of Guns.

I'd be very happy with that! Remember you are shooting a 70 year old rifle with less than ideal sights!

How about a 70 year old guy shooting a new rifle? Same Same?

Hahaha! I would love it if I had my own show. Get paid for blowing crap up. No bucktooth idiot daughters, just 2 rotten terrier dogs. Guess they could be my cohorts on crime on the show. It's definitely a good shooter and I like it. Son's of Guns ticks me off. I HATE that show as well as Top Shot. I hate that show too. They're just crap shows.

Thanks Byrd. I want to shoot the rifle in better lighting at a different target. May have to run by Walmart tonight to pick up some more colorful ones.

Sarge, I think the analogy would work out both ways!

I believe that once you find the "sweet spot" in the load that rifle likes you will do even better. You are for sure on the right track, and have already proven that the Turks are the sleepers in the Mauser world. Do keep us posted on what you find load wise, as I would be interested in what that rifle is capable of.

Conversion can be done with .270 Win brass... example:
Left to right
.270 Win case, shoulder pushed back and neck expanded, finished product cut to specifications for 8x57mm Mauser.

I ended up finding an RCBS trim/form die on eBay. It was new, I won it for $15.78 + $6 shipping. I can't shake a stick at that deal getting it for $22. That's a lot better than I could have got it from anywhere else. So, I ought to have that next week. Trying to convince my wife in letting me try it out to make sure it works as it's supposed to be a "Christmas present". LOL :D

I shot it again today. Tried 2 different loads. 49 grains of H335 and 49 grains of H4895. The H4895 stomped the H335 which I had suspected it would. H4895 is a go-to powder for me.

--Load--
Bullet: 150 gr SP (Hornady #3232)
Powder: 49 gr H4895
Primer: CCI #200
COL: 2.950"

3-shot group is a little over 1". I was a hair high and left of my intended target.
