Another New Guy Here!
Another New Guy Here!
Hello All,
New guy here! I've been lurking around the last couple of weeks and signed on this past weekend. I ordered a P-64 from Classic Arms Sunday evening on-line. They already had my C&R on file. Almost unbelievably, the unit arrived around 2:00 PM today (Wednesday)!!! I had ordered a Polish TTC from them previously. I received it quickly, but not as fast as the P-64!
I am totally blown away with the condition of this little pistol. I paid the extra $10 for Hand Select. The unit looks new and has a mirror bore. One of the magazines matches the gun (both are electro-penciled). The date of manufacture is 1974. The grips have a few light scratches and the holster has a small scrape from someone roughly inserting the magazine but that's it. My only gripe with Classic Arms is that they shipped the pistol, holster, cleaning rod and extra magazine loose in the box (luckily a SMALL box. As soon as I started to open it, I heard rattling inside. This possibly could account for the light scratches on the grips!
I am a happy camper and look forward to shooting her! I also have a Walther PPK/S (made in W. Germany) and I must say that the fit and finish on the Radom seems to be comparable. In my humble opinion, that's saying a lot!
Best Regards, Don

My pistol from Classic also had the pistol and magazines sliding around like BBs in a boxcar. I was a bit surprised with the lack of packing. Still, they were in great shape, I paid the extra $10 bucks too for the hand select.

Curly 1 - Thanks for the welcome! Think I've seen you on the Luger boards. Your avatar definitely stands out!
Cooper - It truly is hard to believe that they would ship without even so much as newspaper for packing! It would seem that they would've at least put the pistol in the holster. Go figure!
LT. BOB - Replied to your PM last night. It shows in the "Outbox - 1" as sent, but not in the "Sent" box. Let me know if you didn't receive it and I'll try again.

Dond, Thank you for the fast response, and all your comments. Looks like I'll be getting the Polish Tok. I called Classic this morning. I mentioned the facts about wrapping the pistol with paper or such. I was told
all items are wrapped and then placed in the shipping box. So there it is !

Re: Another New Guy Here!
Welcome to the board. I've been hanging out also for the info. Finally bought a P64 for myself and decided to join.
I purchasd my pistol from SOG last week. Same story, it was in the holster in a box with the order papers and one wad of cream packing paper. The UPS fellow asked me to check it before he left to see if anything was damaged. That's the first time I received a shipment from SOG that was not securely packed.

High capacity is not an acceptable substitute for good marksmanship.

...And yet another new guy here...just bought a P64 from Classic. And, yes, mine was packed the same way. But the pistol is absolutely perfect. Haven't taken it to the range yet, but I already disassembled it completely, gave it a good cleaning, and reassembled it. If I'm smart enough to do it again within a few days, I'll remember it forever. I'll have a reason soon enough, as some springs are due from Wolff shortly.
BTW, it was the existence of this group that closed the deal for me. What an excellent community! Thank you all for, well, for being who you are.

Hello hi-power man and pcopus,
Glad to see I'm not the only newbie! It's interesting that the pistols from two different distributors seem to packed rather unprofessionally. Since LT. BOB mentioned it to Classic Arms maybe they will take note.
What are the recommendations for the best brand, best functioning ammunition for the P-64? I tried a search, but came up with mostly reloading information.
As can be seen from this thread, all of us new guys were drawn to joining the P-64 Resource by the knowledge exhibited and the friendliness shown. Thanks to all!

dond, feed it anything you can find, it will eat it all. I have used Silver Bear and Brown Bear, Tula in both FMJ and JHP and have had no problems. As soon as I can afford to get the dies, I will start reloading.
Re: Another New Guy Here!
Thanks for the information, lwb64. I picked up some TulAmmo last week. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to try it out yet!

Re: Another New Guy Here!
New owner here as well, although I purchased from a private seller in the area who was downsizing their collection. Looks to have never been fired (ever), and is near mint. Came with a few boxes of ammo and a single mag for a little over ~$200. I spent a few hours cleaning and lubing it, as there were still remnants of cosmoline.
Took it to the range today and it performed flawlessly. Sharper recoil than an XDM .40 S&W, and man do those spent cartridges fly! I didn't even bother trying to fire a live round using DA, dry firing it was bad enough. I can see how people break trigger bars using that thing.
Accuracy was fantastic, hit numerous bullseyes at 20 yards, and not a single round off the 6" (radius) target after 6 mags. Was even able to hit a 4 foot target at 100 yards.
Overall very happy with it! This forum is great. Now I just need to find some spare mags, find a good holster, stock up on ammo, and decide whether or not to try the hammer spring kit. I also have some ideas on how to avoid potential mag latch release issues when using a lighter hammer spring (this is because the mag release shares a spring with the hammer....they could be decoupled).

Welcome to the forum.
So far we have not heard of any issues in that area with the lighter spring. But would like to hear about any testing results you can share.
Good luck.
