p-64 extractor fell off

Post by Cody »

I bought a 1971 p-64 a little over a week ago. I shot it a little over 100 times and the extractor and the spring fell off. I lost the plunger. It is still under warranty from gander for a few more weeks. Should i return it or buy a plunger online? I cant find any so if you know a website that sells them can u paste the link? If the gun is defective let me know please. Thanks for your help.

You can find the parts on Gunbroker.com. Search for P64 or P-64. You will see results for parts show up.

In my opinion you would be better off to take it back to Gander Mtn. That's the whole purpose of the warranty. You're going to spend a good chunk of change to buy the necessary parts to fix it. I would definitely take it back in a heartbeat and let the gunsmith in the store deal with it. They usually have some parts guns that they'd salvage the pieces from or issue you another gun.

I would use the warranty and take it back too. I hope the slide, where the plunger and spring goes, is not deformed. You may have this problem again even if you did the work yourself with ordered parts.

Gander was very rude about the whole problem and they refused to exchange or refund the purchase. They are going to have their gunsmith fix it but i think if it just flew off while shooting it i think that it is a deformation in the slide or extractor like p-64-1973 said. Needless to say im done buying guns there.

The one gun I bought through Gander Mountain ended up souring me on purchasing through them. The gun is fine and I like it a lot. Just next time it looks like Gander has a smoke'n deal, I'll know better and just go ahead and support the LGS instead.

Gander in Wichita, KS was that way. Just rude folks that didn't know anything about anything. Maybe they'll be losing a lot of business as Cabela's put in a new store in Wichita, KS. Sorry you're having such a crappy experience with this Cody. Best of luck! I'll review my Gander literature and see if they're just being stupid on the return policy.

Just called and they said they havent gotten to the gun yet. It looks like they might be trying to drag it out until my coverage expires.

As long as they have it I would think you are covered for the repair even if time runs out.
