Cut My Finger On the Right Side Handguard Notch

Post by cplrickle »

Just got my 64 and sliced my finger open on that notch on the right hand guard notch at the top, putting the slide back on the frame.

Has this happened to anyone else, or did I get a shitty hand guard?

I guess I baptized my new gun in blood!

O.K. so the first round goes to the P-64. Make a couple of dry runs without the recoil spring installed so you can get a feel for it and develop a technique. Sometimes I have to start over when I realize I'm fighting it. The P-64 will win everytime. I cock the hammer everytime upon install. I'm right handed so I pull my trigger guard down and out to the left. Then my fingers are on the rightside of the gun and not tangled up with what I think you are describing, the dropped out front of the trigger guard, as sh--arpe.
Welcome, be nice to it and will become yout little friend.

I have also used a leather glove to avoid the slide slipping while trying to assemble.

I didn't have a problem putting the slide on. I was questioning the handles on the gun. On the right side hand grip, at the top and towards the barrel, there is a little notch cut out. My finger got pinched in there when I put the slide on. About a 1/2 laceration, 5mm deep, bled like a stuck pig.

The left side handle hand grip is flush. I think the notch is normal on the right side. I'm going to file it down a little.

Just confirming this notch is intentional and a warning to others to look out for that bite.

Maybe I'll send a picture pointing it out and my finger trauma.
