Please help a frustrated Newbie

Hello to the good members of this forum ...

I am a C&R/firearm junkie ~ Several Mosin's, SKS's, & odds & ends.

I wanted to make an educated C&R pistol purchase & a while back I started lurking. The DA hype & recoil of the P64 had me somewhat concerned, however, there are "fixes" for that.

What set me on the P64 was the many claims of accuracy. I see these claims everywhere.

Both my father and I are avid enthusiasts and neither one of us can get the little bull (recoil) to shoot what we are aiming at. Always way low (6-8 inches) & to the right at 25 ft. This morning we tried Cheap Russian 92 gr. steel cased FMJ, Winchester 95 gr. FMJ brass cased & S&B 95 gr. FMJ brass. The same results all ammo near 150 rounds & my wrist is killing me.

The rear sight is maxed to the right & only one FTF since day one.
I always keep my firearms very clean & the chamber, bore & muzzle look great.

No I have not & from what I read it's a bear to do that right to left & vise versa.

Besides, it's the 6 to 8 inches low that has me most concerned.

The right is an inch or 2.

It's solid, no gap...Besides this would only adjust right to left (windage) not elevation.
There is no elevation adjustment on the P64 that I know of.
The elevation is my biggest concern.

know the front sight is machined as part of the slide. My front sight is approx. .080" high measured at the rear of front sight down to flat cut. The top of my front sight appears level with the cut front to back. Does it look like any "custom" work down here? The crown of my rear sight is well above the slide with the bottom of the rear sight "U" notch being approx. in the middle of the gutter on the slide. Any "custom" work done here? Look at the front of the rear sight. You will see a long stake mark on the right. This stake should continue into the vertical portion of the rear sight. If this is not aligned it has shifted or been moved. Hope that helps and hope nobody has chopped anything.

From a bench with a rest?

All of the above?

How does it shoot up close say 10 feet or less is it right on then?

Start shooting close in first as Curly suggested from 10 to 21 feet.

Have someone else shoot the pistol and see what type of groups they get as well.

My P-64 is phenomenally accurate. But not tooting my own horn, I'm a good shot. Been shooting many, many years now and have carried a gun as part of my living for a while too.

I will give the 10 ft shot(s) a try next range visit.

The firearm appears to be stock, I will mic the front blade to be sure and compare.
The stake mark you speak of is there and meets the vertical portion of the sight.

Could it be that your flinching? It's easy to do
with a gun that bites like the P64.

That should be easy to test.

Have somene else load up live rounds and mixed in snap caps and then have them observe you shooting.

If you are flinching it should be easy to spot when you hit a snap cap.

You know Denny you may be on to something...

After reading several articles on flinching I sure do brace myself a bit more before I squeeze the trigger on the p64. I am so much more accurate with my other firearms because of comfort. I go into the shot feeling at ease with guns that I am use to.

And Curly1 thanks for the snap cap scenario ~ I will take that into consideration & I have bookmarked your link.

FWIW, I swapped the springs in mine, and it's a totally different gun. It's now my constant companion. Smooth as glass with plenty of snap. What a great little gun!
