Disappointed in local gun show

Post by DocCasualty »

Went to the local funshow today hoping to see some 9X18s and maybe pick up something I didn't own or that seemed like a good deal but alas, nothing! The only 9X18 was some overpriced Brown Bear FMJ. I was really surprised that none were there.

Actually I didn't see much at all that grabbed me. There was a decent mix/match Winchester M1917 but nothing to write home about. I know the guy who's selling it, so if it doesn't sell there I might make him an offer. Other than that I grabbed a couple of boxes of .300WinMag ammo at a decent price and a box of .44Mag ammo too but that's it.

I have been keeping my eyes open for another Coach gun with external hammers. Other than an overpriced Husqvarna there was an old Amercan Gun Co. 12ga but both firing pins were broken and both of my go-to gunsmith/machinist friends passed away this past year, so I didn't want to take a chance on a wall hanger.

My Club sponsored this one so entry was free, as was parking. Nothing lost and it was an okay morning (better than sorting the recyclables, which I guess is next on the agenda!) Just was looking forward to maybe picking up another P-64, Mak or ???

I quit going to gun shows near me. $10 to park $12 to get in. I'm already
down $22 and I just walked through the door! I'm steaming mad already!
I get inside and all I see is old crappy rusty ammo cans. Overpriced beef
jerky. Everything, and I mean everything, associated with firearms was
way way way overpriced! No deals anywhere on guns or ammo what
so ever! Tables with nothing but rusty broken junk! I'm not kidding.
You couldn't pay me $50 to take some of this junk off of their hands!
Anyone that had new or used in good shape firearms wanted two arms
and three legs for them! The only thing that was reasonably priced
was knives. I'll never go again. It didn't used to be that way. 25-30
years ago there were smokin' deals on everything everywhere! At the
LA County Fairgrounds they used to have 2 shows a year in 3 huge
buildings and outdoors as well. No B.S. either. 6 MILES OF TABLES!
It would have taken me 2 days to see it all. Instead I stayed until
I ran out of money. People would bring wagons with them to haul
all of their firearms, ammo, and reloading supplies out of there. They
were stacked up high too! Lots and lots of people walking around carrying
long guns and handguns wearing signs listing what they had for sale and the price they were asking. If you were interested in what they had you stopped them, checked out the firearm, and agreed on a price. Then you paid them the cash they gave you the firearm, and the two of you parted ways. No paperwork. No background check! No nothin'! It was a beautiful thing! This was before gun control laws were like they are today. Oh the good old days! Anymore I just get all of my stuff online and save a lot of money and aggravation. If you have gunshows near where you live that you feel are still worth going to then consider yourself to be very fortunate.
