Bore Snake for 9 x 18 P64

Post by R.A.M. »

Do any of you guys use a bore snake to clean your guns. I guess a standard 9mm bore snake would work.

Thanks,

Never used a bore snake in anything but a shotgun, but I suspect a regular 9mm luger bore snake would work fine. To clean my P64, I just run a patch of Hoppe's, then run a brush through, followed by a dry patch. Finally, a patch (or until clean) of oil. Cleaning around the breech face and the extractor is the hardest part for me to clean. Brown Bear/Silver Bear shoots dirty!

Use a nylon bristle brush for the bolt face / extractor area. Sometimes a blunt pointed object with a rag will get into those tight areas as well.

As far as a bore snake, you've got barely over 3" of barrel to work with, the snake would just be overkill. They're chrome-lined barrels so the fouling comes off real easy with regular old cleaning products.

I just use a .38 boresnake on it. I put a bit of solvent on the head, run it through 2-4 times, and that's it. All done. I don't worry too much about the bolt face area. If it looks like it needs it, I clean it. Otherwise, I leave it be.
Carrying a Mak may not be PC, but whatever works.

The 9mm Bore Snake is good for anything that starts with the number 9 through .357, it's a great product. It removes powder fouling only, it will not remove lead, you will still need chemicals for that. When it gets dirty through it in the wash, they clean up nicely.
