Recoil spring questions...

Hi everyone,

I love my 64; it's a 73'!

I just put the trigger spring in there, and it definitely feels less brutal on the DA.

I have the #22 recoil spring and want to put it in but I have three questions:

1. Does anyone have a photo of how these should look when they are properly ground down?
2. Why the *%&$ does Wolf send them this way? It doesn't fit!
3. What is the other little spring for (the one in the same package as the recoil spring)? Do I need to do anything with that?

the small spring in with the recoil spring is a firing pin spring , the gun that they used to make the first recoil spring must have been a little larger , some guys have no problem putting them on other do , the easy way is to just finish the ends of the spring down like the original or put a 20 # spring in it

So, do I need to switch out the firing pin spring? Is there a reason to do so?

I have never change any of mine unless the spring was broken , I have a draw full of them

I got my Wolff recoil spring in, and just used very fine sandpaper to flatten the ends. The gun goes together, and I can operate it by hand (didn't shoot it with new spring in it), but it sounds like the recoil spring is bunching or something. Doesn't sound right. I thought that as long as the gun would go together, it should be good to go. What am I missing?

jbradshaw3, are you putting the smaller end on the barrel first? I wouldn't see the spring bunching up since it's on a guide (barrel). What lb did you buy, I purchased the 20# and I'm going to take it shooting today 13Feb'10. Mine appears to be good when I test it by hand. You should try to shoot it and see if it functions properly. You said you can operate it by hand. I think the sound could just be the sound of the spring contacting the barrel upon compression.

Also, apparently the firing pin spring is supposed to be 40% stronger. I have no way to verify this, just going by what someone had said somewhere else on this forum.

I shot mine yesterday and it did alright. I used some Norinco non-corrosive ammo. All 50 rounds fired perfectly and cycled perfectly. I have the 20# recoil spring and the 17# hammer spring. I know, I know that some folks don't recommend the 17# hammer spring due to it possibly not firing certain Russian ammo and that it can cause the magazine to release due to the catch being tied in with the hammer spring. I had no such results, only positive. At 7-10 yards it did fairly well keeping all rounds within 4-5" or so. I'm not much of a pistol shooter, so I don't know how good that really is, however, a person's melon is bigger than that and a chest is huge, so I'm sure I'd do alright. At 15 yards, my shots were going a bit left. Not sure if it was me, being in a poorly-lit indoor shooting range, or the rear sight needs a slight whack to the right. However, for what I'll use it for, I won't even bother it.

Yeah, I have the small end on the barrel. I guess the sound could just be the spring contacting the barrel, but the factory spring doesn't make that sound. It is a 22# spring. After shooting the gun with the 17# mainspring (I also had no problems with firing or the magazine release), I'm fine with the factory recoil spring and will probably leave it alone. Wouldn't want to shoot the gun all day, but like you said, that won't matter for my purposes. Thanks for the thoughts.
