FINISH AND MARKINGS OF THE P64

Post by ulmorbust »

Hi folks... I'm new to the P64, but not new to firearms... I recently acquired two P64s from J&G Sales and they are in FANTASTIC shape!

Does anyone know how these pistols were kept in such great shape??? Both of mine look like brand new with no wear on the parts, the barrel lining, the magazine wells, etc...

Are these truly new or somehow refinished to look new... the bluing and polishing is simply wonderful!

Any ideas, too, on what the markings mean??? Both of mine have an "A" stamped on the right side near the beavertail/tang...

Thanks,

Ulmorbust... :D

Hi ulmerbust,

Hope you enjoy your P64's. Your right about most P64's in that they come with a great blueing job and they hardly look used. Both of mine are the same way. I believe the "A" that you are referring to is a modification stamp. I hope someone else jumps in here so I don't give you wrong info. I think its when the trigger mod might have been incorporated? Is yours a 1971 or 72 version? That is when the hammer went from a rounded version to a triangular shape and there are some other minor changes as well. Check the history page and browse around for awhile on past posts. There is a bunch of stuff here to read. Might want to save it for a rainy Saturday or Sunday. There's that much information here to take in, to much for all at once. Happy shootin. ;)

Thanks for the response... both of mine are dated 1976 with the triangular hammer...

Any ideas if these were refurbished or just packed away in cosmoline... the bluing and finish, inside and out, looks brand new...

Thanks! :D

I have not heard of them being re-arsenaled. They may have been. Overall, I doubt that mine were used much at all. I really don't have an accurate statement for your question. I do know that one of mine came to me through MCS Firearms and it was in great shape, looked brand new. But are they? I'm not sure.
