OK I broke down and bought a PA-63 from J&G. It came to the local FFL and it appears to be a pretty nice gun no major flaws clean, shine bore. SO i am going to send it off to ECPW for hard chroming. I noticed that they do anodizing and i was thinking what if i had them do the frame in a gold color and hard chrome the rest. HMMMMMM
Norm what do you think? your avatar got me started on this project. :-*

p64owner,
I totally agree with Norm. I bought a PA-63 from Classic Arms about a year ago when they were selling them with hard chromed parts.
The frame was left alone, being that it is alloy. So, it doesn't match perfectly, but you can always polish it like Norm did. The same company that chromed his (Norm's) does all of Classic Arms chrome guns that they sell. (Elite Custom Guns).
Eventually I may send mine off to a guy in PA to have him nickel the PA-63 frame, and them chrome over the nickel. You can nickel an alloy, but not apply chrome to any alloy directly. So, you can nickel, then chrome so it will match perfectly.

I purchased a Feg R-61 in .380acp, 9MM Browning, 9MM Kurtz, 9MM Corto; etc., etc., a short barreled PA-63. The pistol appears to be polished Aluminum/Titanium alloy and nothing more. It is very attractive and I'm quite pleased with the pistols aesthetics. The handgun appears to have some years on it and the finish is still in very nice shape.
Now if I could just find a .380 round that was as accurate and powerful as the 9x18's I would be a real happy camper.

These from Buffalo Bore should meet your power requirement. I've never used them so I don't know about accuracy.

Item 27B/20: 95 gr. F.M.J.-F.N @ 1125 fps 267 ft. lbs. Per Box of 20 $21.93
Item 27C/20: 90 gr. Speer Gold Dot J.H.C. @ 1175 fps 276 ft. lbs. Per Box of 20 $21.93
Edited to add that I think I read somewhere that the aluminum frame FEG pistols should not be shot with bullets of more than 95gr. So I assume that would mean ANY "hot" ammo of whatever weight bullet.

I have fired the PA-63 and I like the accuracy alot. I still want it hard chromed. I guess i will just polish the frame or will ECPW do that as part of the whole process?
I need to call them and ask these questions. any one know where i can get one of those FEG R-61's?

It would appear to be an FEG SMC-380 to me. As far as I know the SMC-380 and the R61 .380 are basically the same gun except that the R61s did not have the thumb-rest left grip panel. They used a flat grip panel like the right side one. I have read somewhere on the 'Net that the R61s were for domestic Hungarian police use and the SMCs were manufactured for export, and that the R61s were slightly better fitted, but that is just Internet rumor as far as I am concerned.
These are pics of the R61 which I purchased from Cowan's Auctions:
http://www.cowanauctions.com/upcoming_d ... emid=59124
With shipping & ins & ffl transfer & FDLE call-in I have about $215 tied up in it.
I have shot Russian and Czech ammo of no more than 95 grains through it without a hiccup. I also read on the 'Net not to use bullets of more than 95 grains or any "hot" loads in the aluminum frame FEG pistols. Maybe another groundless rumor but I abide by it anyway.
I would think you could change calibers from 9mm Mak to .380 by ordering a PA-63 barrel and shortening it if you really had to have the caliber of your choice.
Bob Cogan has changed the front and rear sights and the safety as well as hard chrome plating the entire piece. I do not personally think the gun is worth anywhere near $450 except to the man or woman who must have that particular example at any price.
