good day all......
i have yet to receive my springs for taking care of the DA issue, but have another question i have not seen on the forum, yet...
the safety on my P64 is really dificult to move from fire to safe and back......
now granted, my 69 year old fingers are not what they used to be. however i have no problem with my ruger P345........
if it is not normal, any recommendations as to how to make it better........
really enjoy the posts on this forum.........

Whoops......... received the parts and looks like there has been a change. Received part as listed on the forum and what i received does not look like the previous post. my part is flat on the end that was sort of pointed before. or, of course they could have sent the wrong part, which is possible i guess........ although on the invoice the two pieces are listed per the previous forum post.

did you take the safety apart to see if that's was the problem first ,it might only need to be cleaned , these guns need to be taken apart and cleaned before ever fired

thanks norm......... so, i in my old age, managed to easily remove the safety, firing pin and safety detent and spring.... no problem with the plastic bag.... they do come out pretty quickly.....
i then spritzed it up with my 'break free' including the firing pin channel and the safety channel... then since i had it apart i replaced the original firing pin spring with the one from Wolff that came with the 20lb recoil spring.....
it actually looked like it was fairly new....... i ever so carefully dressed up the edges of the oval detents on the safety, they felt pretty good anyway, and looked pretty good.....
so after some more synthetic oil, letting it run off, drying up the excess, i sort of managed without loosing any parts to get it back together.... sure is nice to have all the detailed procedures, photo's and guidance from the forum folks...... sort of takes away some of the anxiety of venturing into something like this.......
so, the gun is back together, still works... Ha..... and although the safety still feels some what rough/stiff, i think it is usable..... although not as smooth as my P345........
so for now i think i will rest on this issue....... again many thanks......

so, after thinking about the less than smooth safety, i took it apart again, getting good at this, and left the safety detent and spring out, put it back together and of course it was as smooth as glass...... so,
i did a little polishing on the safety detent as it looked like it might have had a little varnish on it or something........... and went ahead and replaced the safety spring with the walther PPk unit......
and guess what...... it is now operable by my thumb, although just a tad tight.... but oh so much better........

Hey All,
I have two P-64's. The first one I have cleaned and done the safety sanding on the detents and lubed it quite well. I have also done the Wolff spring mods. It shoots great and the recoil is not a problem for me. I have not done anything to modify the safety in any way, although the safety is still a little difficult to operate. I am thinking about replacing the plunger with the Walther plunger.
My second one is still in cosmoline and I have not have had the time to clean it yet. I am waiting for the Wolff springs for this one. However, the safety on this uncleaned one operates like a dream. This gun also looks to be in new un-issued condition.
Norm, and the others, do you thing I need to do some more sanding on the first gun? Should I just do the Walther mod? I am getting tired of dis-assembling the safety to see if I have sanded enongh. (Wet sanding ONLY).
Both guns are of the 1975 pointed hammer variety.
Thanks, fritzhund

I have taken a nail and chucked it up in a drill and made these pin's before , you might want to put some powdered graphite between the safety and the pin I have done that too it seems thelp

Norm......
You remind me of two things my father taught me that I will never forget: Crocus Cloth and powdered graphite.
My father and I were discussing Crocus Cloth just the other night. I read a post somewhere about polishing feed ramps and searched for Crocus Cloth in EVERY hardware store around. I live in a highly populated area and nobody in any store including Lowes and Home Depot new what Crocus Cloth was

I misplaced the 8x10 sheet I bought in the late 1970's.
I still have my original tube of powdered graphite from my Soapbox Derby racer though

Does anyone have a strip of Crocus Cloth that they would be willing to part with? I'll supply the postage. I only need a quarter sheet or less.
As for the graphite I'll give a go and let you know. It sounds like a good idea.
Thanks as always, fritzhund
