Hey guys! I purchased a 1972 P64 from Makarov.com last week and finally got a chance to shoot it yesterday. What a great little gun! I went through 25 rds of S&B FMJ and 75 rds of SilverBear HP. Had 2 casing that got jammed on the extraction, but no other problems. I was going to keep the casings of the S&B's for reloading, but the 64 chunks the spent casings so far that I couldn't find them where I was shooting, which was at a cow pasture close to the Little River Anhoo, this message board is great and really came in handy when I was trying to decide if this was the first handgun I wanted to buy. Maybe I'll purchase a CZ-82 or a CZ-52 in the near future. Kindof leaning toward the 52 since there is a ton of cheap surplus ammo for it. Any suggestions/help with that would be great!! Going to go fix breakfast for the kiddos, so have a safe Memorial Day weekend and I'll type with y'all later!!
Welcome Cliff, I'm sure by now you may just change you mind on the CZ's and get a twin for you 64! Just kiddin, they do seem to want to multiply though. Let us know how the Mak round does against those cows, and if you can dig out a round or two for pics. You also have a Great, safe Memorial Weekend!
BTW I'll take a bacon and cheese omelet, burnt home fries and burnt white toast w/apple jelly.
I had thought about getting one for the wife when I was ordering, but wanted to try one out first. I have mine field stripped ready for a cleaning.
I try not to hit the livestock. That would make for a very unhappy farmer and I would lose my free firing range ;D He got a bit peeved at me due to the fact that I was down there on a Sunday firing off the M44. Said it sounded like a canon being fired Man I love those rifles!!!

I'm already having withdrawals from shooting it I cleaned it without a hitch this afternoon and let my kids handle it while I instructed them on proper handgun safety. And no, the gun was not loaded ;D They were like, "It's heavy! and Is it a real gun?" They are quite smart little kids so I'll be sure to keep it out of their reach.
At least your kids are interested. I can't get mine to even go near a firearm--not with threats, bribes or even pleading!
You got the P-64 and an M-44? You are indeed a person after my own heart. I love that M-44. It's sportarized, with the bayonet filed off, and a the turned down bolt and scoped. It can shoot a lot better than my ability to shoot it!
You get the CZ-52 (another excellent firearm!) and you'll be 'downtown' in that cow pasture!!!
2 Dog and Devlin, you are both sadistic!! A P64 and an M44 talk about taking a beating!! A visit to the range must be followed by a visit to the ER or at least a Masuse (spelling, sorry: person who gives a massage).
Do you first bruise your hand then your shoulder or is it the reverse?? At least you can do something about the recoil ond DA pull on the P64. The M44 is just a mule kickin and an flame thrower!
You are both better men than me! My M91/30 has enough kick to make me take a few breaks in between stripper clips!
After 4 firing range/cow pasture sessions with the M44 and 91/30, I don't bruise anymore ;D The blood vessels went somewhere else, I guess ??? That first day of shooting, I thought my arm was going to fall off! The P64 does have the new Wolff springs in it, so I didn't get to enjoy the recoil that has been described here. Maybe my second P64 will be all original
On your m44 you can always put a slip on recoil pad on it like bobby j. ( rlj102468 ) did on his . it calmed the recoil way down , I know I shot it , he also has some sort of flash compensator on it too
Actually, with the fiberglas stock or whatever it is made of, my M-44 is not that bad for recoil. I will admit to having a little blue on my left shoulder (I'm left handed) after a day's work, but it's not that bad. And after all, if you're going to shoot milsurp, you gotta have some scars to prove it.
As for the P-64, the recoil pain was terrible at first. I recall stating that when I first shot it, that if I had to defend myself with it, and couldn't do so with the first five shots, I'd just hand the pistol to the assailant and ask him to put me out of my misery.
I mentioned this to some other folks on the board and found out that I was holding the P-64 way too tightly, and when I loosened up, the 'bite' while still there, was tolerable. A Hogue sleeve later (I had to cut it down to size) and the Wolff springs, and believe it or not, the little brute is now fairly pleasant to shoot.
Ah, the accessories! Must not forget those wonderful accessories! They make the 'ensamble'!
I put about 50-60 rounds out of my M44 on Sun. and I felt great after . The muzzle break and the recoil pad helps alot. I never did mind the P-64, but to each his own. I'm just glad they all are nice to handle now.
