Re: Won't fire double action.

Hardcore Keith, have you tried performing this modification to the gun that wouldn't fire in double action, and did it work?

Re: Won't fire double action.

Hardcore Keith,
now that you think you have it figured out, do you have a solution to fix the problem? I could sure use one.

Re: Won't fire double action.

hardcore Keith thanks for the input. Ibelieve mine is a 1969. I'll have to check this when I get home, as I am currently out of town for a few days. The thing is, my firearms instructor at work when he cleaned and inspected it said it looked like it had been fired little or not at all because showed...

Re: Won't fire double action.

sorry for the delay on this post. I finally got the gun to the range this weekend. It currently has the original 24# factory spring. It still will not fire in double action. the hammer comes back, then falls, but evidently with not enough force to fire the primer. I was using Brown Bear FMJ in the s...

Re: Won't fire double action.

thanks for the responses. to answer a few questions: the gun was disassembled, cleaned, and oiled by the firearms instructor at work, who also installed the Wolf springs for me. I don't know if the DA attempted firing dimpled the primer, I didn't think to check, I just fired the rounds single action...

Re: Won't fire double action.

the trigger appears to be working normally. the hammer comes back, and then falls, but appears to not strike the primer hard enough to ignite it. Hammer travel prior to falling appears to be about half as far as when it is fully cocked for single action.

Won't fire double action.

I replaced the hammer spring with a Wolf 17 pound hammer spring when I first got my P-64, so I never tried firing it with the 24 lb factory spring. When I took it to the range, it would not fire in double action. I then ordered the spring pack from Wolf that has several different springs. I replaced...

Re: Where is everyone from?

Clarence, NY, just outside of Buffalo. Land of difficult to obtain handgun permits, and even harder to get without license restrictions (like "restricted target and hunting only"), and every gun you own registered and listed on your license. (yes, mine is unrestricted but I have worked most of my li...

Re: Found More P-64s

I bought my P64 about a month ago from Dan's Sporting Goods in Apollo, PA. The web site listed them as very good to excellent, P64 and two mags for $159. I spoke to Dan on the phone, and he said some of them looked like new. I asked if he would hand select one for me that looked like new, and he sai...

Re: Problem with replacement Main Spring

thanks for the info. I went ahead and order the spring pack with the 18, 19, and 20 pound springs. I'll start with the 18 lb, and if that does not work, I'll work my way up until it is reliable. By the way, the ammo I used was Fiocchi. I don't know if they use a hard primer or not.

Problem with replacement Main Spring

Hi, I am a new member. I recently purchased a P64 in beautiful condition with 2 magazines. Based on info from this web site, I ordered a 17 lb mainspring from Wolf Gun Springs. I took it to the range this past weekend, and while the gun fires great in single action, double action is not working. It ...
