Re: Compare recoil of .38 snub vs P64
Agreed, it depends on the particular snubby. My wife's stainless S&W J-frame is snappy, maybe a little less recoil than the P64 with Silver Bear but I have the .38 loaded very light so she can manage it. I'm running 95 or 100 gr .38 Spl (not +P), if I ran 125 gr or +P I think the snubby would pr...

Re: p-64 sights
Typcally, yes. But if the pistol were brought in individually then it's not necessary. Also, if it was brought in before '68 I'm not sure if it was required.
I have a NIB Belgian Hi-Power that was imported individually, it lacks the importer markings.

New, considering a P64 for a CC or BUG
I'm pretty sure the rating on the Wolff springs are the rate of the spring, expressed in pounds of force per inch of compression, and not the resultant trigger pull force. As others have said, the trigger pull with the Wolff spring is a bit stiff but smooth and manageable.

I have trouble getting mine down over the rails too. Then all of a sudden it just falls into place. I just don't have the knack for it yet.

Why The Different Hammers?
I think they changed to the triangle ones to make thumb cocking easier. With mine it's easy to thumb cock it while drawing, to avoid that stiff DA trigger pull. Mine's a '73 model, so the triangle ones came in before then.

The importance of a proper grip.
I took my P-64 to the range Saturday. Not the most comfortable pistol but easy to manage and the most accurate one I had with me on that range trip. I ran about 30 rounds of Silver Bear hollow point through it, I feel that I should fire it each time I go since it's my primary carry weapon.

You're probably looking at more money than the gun cost you, if you only buy one. If it was put on a screw machine and a few hundred of them were run, it would probably only cost twice as much to do a few hundred as to do one. If you find a hobbyist with a Sherline in their garage, use 1074 or 1080 ...

P-64=PPK=Tomcat? size?
I use a DeSantis SuperFly for the PPK as my pocket holster. It fits well, in my opinion. If I had any complaints it's that it might ride just a little low in the holster, you need to make sure you have your fingers around the grip to get it out smoothly and quickly.

not in states that have a Castile law like Florida NORM Didn't say they could collect anything, but they can certainly find a lawyer to file suit and force you to spend thousands to defend yourself against a civil suit. The Castle Doctrine only protects you from a criminal charge, not a civil charg...

Well, their survivors can (and usually will) sue. Still, I'd rather take my chances being judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Just order the replacement spring. With the spring change you still won't mistake the DA pull for a S&W revolver but you can at least pull it without breaking all the rules of trigger squeezing.

^ Ditto.
I'm from the Mississippi Gulf Coast originally but I'm a mechanical engineer so I've spent the past 26 years chasing work around the Southeast. I've been in the Midlands of South Carolina for the past 2 1/2 years, working for a company that manufactures firearms.

WELCOME THREAD AND MEM, INFO
I just ordered a P-64 from an online seller so I thought I'd join. This place seems to be a great resource for owners of this firearm. I'm a mechanical engineer living in South Carolina. I work for a firearms manufacturer and received my training for my concealed carry permit through work. I already...
