PI/ new Kydex holsters
Greetings all,
I thought I might get a line of custom, Kydex holsters in the works.
Here is a sample.
I plan on producing whatever the community dictates.
But primarily OWB, IWB and vehicle. Inside and outside console.
I also have in mind to make a hybrid with molders polyurethane back plate.
Personally I still like my leather slider. But many like a more secure fit.
This OWB is contoured to have a very slim profile and is also curved for relearn while seated.
For a rigid holster it has rode quite comfortably for a couple weeks. But I still keep my leather slider on my left side as my right hand is still broke.

Interesting. I see in the photos that you wear the OWB waistband in the 3 o'clock position. How does it ride in the 5 o'clock position for those of us that prefer to carry there?

Re: PI/ new Kydex holsters
I'll take a couple pics in the morning and attach a Flickr link.
I actually carry at about 2:30. It just intersects my pelvic bone most comfortable there and hides the pistol butt almost completely under a tee or loose button down. I know this is a very personal issue with different body types.
Currently I still like my leather quick draw slider. Most comfortable and passes the run and tumble test for retention. Doesn't walk out when sitting.
I'm working on a polyurethane/ Kydex hybrid. Should be interesting.
The 5:00 is likely the most comfy. But my issue was always the butt protruding.

They look good btw. My main concern is the tension on the Trigger Well area. I can see that it is molded very close around the Trigger. Is there any chance that it could cause it to pull the Trigger and fire while Holstering? Is there any way to relax the tension on that area while maintaining retention of the rest of the gun?

Holster follow-up.
As to the tension or contact in the trigger area. I can see by the image that you may get this impression. Great observation BTW.
But I assure you that there is absolutely no contact with the trigger at any point of insertion or retraction. Even in the home position there is about .090" per side clearance. When inserting or retracting the trigger hard flexes the holster open. The trigger guard is the primary area for retention. And is easily adjusted to the users preference with a little careful heat gun work.
This is also true of the overall fit on the hip. You can see that I put generous contour to its shape. Mostly to fit myself for these first few models.
I will be supplying them with some curvature. But will offer guidance on how to reshape them to comfort to the customers carry location and body type.
Going to make a Quick draw slider today. This is my preference in leather. Will post on flickr page when done.
Also I will make a few in lefty of all styles to keep in stock. I have a "righty" customer that has right shoulder reconstruction and cannot draw from the right hip. So I will make him a modified righty holster with a reverse can't for a cross draw. Will post that as well.
Back to the bench. More fun stuff in the works.

The flickr link above also addresses the 5:00 carry position.
Again. This in my opinion the most comfortable, "walking around", position. But pokes out too much for my liking when seated.

Re: PI/ new Kydex holsters
You are definitely peaking my interest, Russ.
Since I need to order a set of V.05 grips from you anyway, I might just have to order both those and a holster.

Nice work Russ. Really nice looking. I prefer IWB but have a back that sometimes balks at the pressure IWB can cause from the belt and have to hse OWB. Is the holster in the new link the quick draw slider and if so what are you asking for it?
Close enough for Government work will get you dead, ask any Vet.

Re: PI/ new Kydex holsters
The kydex holster I would buy is just a well molded simple clip on IWB. I have these for other pistols, and they work very well for my needs. I get them with a neutral cant on the clip, so they can be used crossdraw as well as 3 or 5 o'clock.
Make one like that, and I'll buy.
