Slide will not come off.

With no magazine in safety off and trigger guard pulled to the side the slide will not come off. I have had my p64 for around 2 years and taken it apart lots of times so I know how its done. Any thing that I should check on?

Welcome to the forum.

Just to make sure the trigger guard is disengaged pull it down and place a narrow piece of wood between it and the frame when it is pulled down. like a ruler. I use a thin piece of cedar that sometimes line the sides of cigar boxes.

Is the nub of the trigger guard that is on the front top of the guard still there?

Sounds like you have done everything there is to do to get the slide off. Have you gotten forceful with it yet? I can't think of much else that would get in the way other than the recoil spring. It's not compressing all the way it sounds like.

I'm guessing you're pulling it as far to the rear as you can and then up?

Try making sure the slide stop is down even though no mag is inserted.

Did you replace the recoil spring?

In the short time that I have had them, had one with a trigger pin push out to the left side and the head of the pin rubbed on the bottom of the slide making it difficult to get off.

I could not remove my slide. I finally gave the slide a jerk to the rear and it came off. I discovered the recoil spring did not have a flat on either end. The coil was round right to the tips. Apparently I could not get the spring compressed. I filed the ends down until I could get the slide on and off but it still takes a good bit of force.

There's a photo of the spring ends in this thread:

I agree w/hi-power re the recoil spring. I replaced mine w/a Wolff spring & had a great deal of difficulty removing the slide until I flattened both ends of the new spring. JMHO.
