New Guy With P64 and Some Ques

I recently picked up a non-handpick P64 from AIM Surplus.

Gun was pretty clean, but I still tore it down and soaked it a few nights in mineral spirits.

I did a thorough cleaning, deburring, and complete mild action job (i.e. polishing of most all moving surfaces) but did NOT change any hammer or sear angles for safety and reliabilty's sake.

I also installed a Wolff recoil spring and 19# Wolff hammer spring.

This DA pull is still extremely heavy. It feels like 15# then rapidly stacks near the end of the pull and feels like it hits a peak of 20-ish#! Stings your finger when it finally breaks. SA is fairly light.

Is this normal for these things? Especially the severe stacking and finger-stinging part? I haven't handled one before I bought this one, fwiw.

My 11-y/o son can't even pull the trigger in DA without using two hands!

Thanks and great forum you guys have here.

I'll bet its a triangle hammer with the cam over effect.

I'm not sure which hammer it has. It looks like every one I've ever seen in pics---sort of a "pointed" hammer spur.

I haven't fired it yet (waiting on ammo to be shipped in), but I can't imagine you could make good hits outside of 10 feet with that DA trigger!

Yes, tri hammer. I have both, currently to the right of me, and both in pieces!! My round hammer is a little better in this area. Some people use 17lb. spring, I have an 18lb. and am satisfied. I try to pull straight thru to avoid "the Hump". I did have to flatten the ends, as the spring was cocking. Also at the right top where there is a u cut out in the frame, my spring and washer was contacting there--ended gritty feel. Also down the length of the spring and inbetween the spring and frame the spring was dragging here before flattening spring ends.Maybe try less lb. spring, but check for this too if you like. you can see all this with the grips off. You can also notice how the spring leans forward at first and then really start to load.
