Today my wife and I picked up our Ohio CCW license. I will be carrying my P-64 as soon as I can buy an appropriate holster for it. I'll be shopping for one this weekend. I'm sure it will feel odd carrying a pistol in public till I get used to it.

I have a friend in Ohio - I think he said you had a CCW law passed last year? But that the local sheriff can decide to post all CCW applications in the newspaper and his local sheriff does do that. Is that right?

I is my understanding that they can do that but they all do not. The issuance of the licenses is a matter of public record that can be looked up. That doesnt mean that they must be posted. It is the countys that are against citizens having CCW's that do that.They believe posting names is a deterant. Ohio has over 90,000 CCW holders so it isnt working.

congrats on your ccw. dont worry after awhile you wont think every one in ohio is looking at that gun you are hiding.. good luck on holster hunting .rear about all of us who end up with it in pocket...al

Congrats on the CCW, here are my modes of travel with my P-64's, depending on weather and situation I pocket carry about 80% of the time.

redfestiva, I remember my excitement, when I first got my permit. I called a cop friend and ask him to have one of his buddies pull me over for a warning ticket. He said he would be glad to, but he couldn't guarnatee just a warning. I wanted to show my permit to a policeman real bad, but wasn't willing to spend $137 for the thrill. I have yet to show it to a police officer officially and that has been 3 years ago.

I also remember trying to find the perfect ccw pistol and holster. I don't know haw many holsters I have now. I bought another one last weekend. Congratulations and enjoy. Later Don

Yes, Fobus makes a paddle holster of the PPK and I understand the P-64 will fit in it, however, I prefer the Sig 230/232 model for the P-64. Hope this helps.

I actually got to that--show a cop my CCL right after getting it--but it was entirely unintentional on my part... ::) He DID let me off with a warning tho...

well I am in no hurry to show a policeman my ccw, I've had 2 traffic stops in about 15 years resulting in one speeding ticket.

Why do you want to show a cop anything???

Speaking of "traffic stops" I read somewhere on the internet (can't remember where now) that if you get stopped, and the officer wants to search your car, don't let them! This holds true even if you have nothing to hide. The guy that posted this info said he was a lawyer, but you can't beleive everything you read. The post made a lot of sense. The "jest" of the reason was to make sure your rights were not violated, and if they want to search your car, they have to get a warrant. This would totally protect you in case yu had a firearm in the car and it was legal to carry in your vehicle as prescribed by the local laws.

I used to think just like your friend mentioned! However, I think that any non-comliance is seen in a negative light and might lead to problems..... I don't think it is out of line to ask why the search is needed before allowing it though.

If you have a vehicle shared by others or borrowed from a friend, I would definitely deny the search request since you never know what someone might have hidden in the vehicle. In the military, the base I was on would do car searches with dogs at the gate and many unknown items got sniffed out that way. "I borrowed this car" doesn't work once they find something. I wouldn't be worried about this in any of my vehicles.

Do you guys know if the fingerprinting from CCW goes in a national database that is searchable? I have been hesitant to get a CCW because I don't want to be thrown in the pool of people that are searched for when the police or FBI have prints only! I have no reason to worry other than fingerprinting is a relative science and I don't want to be in question because some criminal who has prints that are 60-70 percent like mine makes my prints show up on a search!

I don't want to be treated as part of the pool of documentation on criminals because I got a CCW license.
