Double Action trigger pull question....

Hello everyone,

I have not handled any other P-64s, other than my own. The DA trigger pull seems odd to me. I installed a 17# Wolff hammer spring, and still the hammer does not travel very far to the rear. I tried to get an answer on another post, but I'll be more specific this time. I have not had a chance to fire the pistol yet, but I did try the pencil test. The The question I have is:

How far should the hammer go to the rear when firing DA? Thanks in advance!

About half to 2/3 the travel.

When you manually cock the hammer back for SA, the face of the hammer will line up with the joint between the frame and the slide. That will be your full travel. The DA travel will come back to really about the 1/2 way point.

Hope this helps.

That does help, thank you! Mine does not go to the rear even half way. It appears the the pistol will fire, but I'm expecting light primer strikes. I replaced the trigger return spring with one of Norm's, so I know the trigger bar is getting enough upward force to contact the hammer. I've also changed out the trigger bar, and there is wear from the trigger bar contacting the hammer. I have not dry fired it enough to cause that much wear. Any ideas on where I should look to correct this problem?

That seems odd that your trigger bar has wear in that slit area where it contacts the point on the hammer. I've put several rounds through mine and it still looks new, the trigger bar that is. That is the only place I can see to look for a problem with the double action. The slit is supposed to contain the pointed part of the hammer and cause it to move the hammer to the rear as the trigger is pulled as it is forcing the trigger bar forward< if that all makes sense... The edges of the slitted area should be sharp. The contact point on the hammer should be sharp. If either is not, then I would advise to replace the worn looking part(s). I believe you're in the right place.

You are speaking my language! The trigger bar I put on was looked new. It just has some slight, but noticeable wear in that groove in the trigger bar after a few dry fires. I really appreciate your advise. I really value your input. I'll update once I finally get an opportunity to fire the pistol.
