For those that know is there really much difference between a 69 p64 and a post 72 model?

Round hammer versus square hammer.

+1 unless it has had changes made, ie., springs etc etc, but normaly that is the only difference and yet we have seen '69 P-64's with the round hammer.

Something else in the trigger assembly was changed, but there really isn't any mention of exactly what it is. That is the reason for the "A" stamped on the frame towards the hammer.

This is from one manual for the P-64.
"In 1972, some minor modifications were made to the trigger mechanism and the hammer was given a
larger hammer spur."

this is the differences

1964 to 1971

round hammer, longer firing pin , return trigger spring 28 gage square wire raped 4 times

1972 till end of production

triangular hammer , shorter firing pin, return trigger spring 32 round wire raped 3 times


every once in a while you can come across one with difference parts installed

What about magazines? The lips on my '74 are longer (back to front) than the lips on my '69.

as far as I'm concerned they never change any mag you have original mags and then you got aftermarket mags ,all the mags that I have are all the same except one aftermarket some one gave me and I have 4 pistols two mage apiece and the one

Shorter firing pin in '72 eh? Wonder if Tinkerer's P-64 (the one that got dropped and shot him in another post) had the long or short firing pin.....
