What can go wrong on these, what has broke on your p-64?

Question: I love my p-64 but there are no spare parts for this gun and mine is 42 years old.

What is likely to break on these? And if you have a p-64 that has broke what part broke on yours and what did you do about it?

Also how many rounds through yours?

If I were answering this post I would reply:

1969 p-64 700 rounds of silver/brown bear ball ammo. 19 trigger, 20 recoil, polished feed ramp, rest stock. No problems to report.

I have a 1972. I have put several hundred rounds maybe even a thousand through it in the 5 years or so. I replaced the recoil and hammer spring because I wanted to. No problems that required anything but cleaning and breaking in. I have to do some deep cleaning and wear in to get it perfect.

I have two P-64s and maybe a thousand or so rounds through both combined. No problems here. The only things I have heard complaints about breaking or wearing out are the springs mentioned above and safeties (springs, plungers, and the actual safety itself). There have been several requests for firing pins but I can't tell if is to replace one or just to have a spare.

Springs can usually be found fairly easily. Anything else .... Occasinally someone will 'part' one out in here or on gunbroker but otherwise, is is nearly impossible to find spare parts. Get two so you can either have a spare gun or a source of spare parts.

The firing pin requests I've heard about were allegedly from russian ammo that "burned" the pin (I think it was Wolf). I've heard of safeties breaking. I plan to buy another P64 just to have spare parts.

My slide stop bar broke over a year ago, haven't been able to find a replacement yet. :(

zerrodefex,
Send a PM to papabear and he may still have one. Otherwise try here on gunbroker.com
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =208907628

They call it the ejector, but it is also the slide catch.

The trigger return spring in my 1970 round hammer busted first time I fired the gun. I replaced it with one of Norm's springs, since then I've fired maybe a hundred rounds with no further issues. Because of the parts shortage situation I don't shoot my P64s very often.
