Not a good experience with S.O.G.

Received my latest Polish p-64 from SOG today (7/15/10). A quick check of the gun's mechanics showed that the gun was defective ( the safety lever would not reset the trigger when returned to the firing position). I called SOG and was given a return # but was advised that I would have to pay the return shipping expenses. Was told that the are only the Distributor and they do not check the working condition of the guns. The employee stated that this was stated in their ad. They do advertise these guns as in excellent condition? Mine was not! Keep this in mind when dealing with SOG

I bet if you'd cleaned the cosmoline off the disconnecter and safety the gun would work great.

Edited to add: This is SOP for any surplus gun, by the way.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience, like said above my trigger did not want to reset every time until I took the pistol apart and cleaned and lubed it. It works 100% now.

I'd definitely clean the cosmoline and lube it prior to thinking about shipping it back. I ordered at the beginning of the week and I believe my FFL received mine today (they said it shipped Tuesday but my online account shows "processing") so my question is if I clean all of the cosmoline off and there's an issue, will SOG take it back since it's not in the same condition received?

What happens if I take the gun apart to clean it and then lose a part or that just cleaning it not the problem? Will they take it back? The gun when received was very clean, very little to no cosmoline at all, the safety should have worked. I think it is probably the safety plunger detent that is the problem and I don't want to fool with it.

If the gun is in excellent condition cosmetically then I would definately take an extra step before I declared it crap. Take the grips off and soak that thing in mineral spirits for 24hrs before you send it back. You probably have a jewel of a gun that has just been crudded up with cosmoline.

Hey, I must be a gunsmith since I'm the only one who inspected mine!

My gun was vey clean looking...on the outside. When I took it apart I found cosmo in places I didn't expect. After cleaning, the safety worked far easier and the trigger pull was noticebly better.
You DO NOT have to take it down to bare bones. Just a standard takedown will do. That means remove the grips and slide and hit it with some Gun Scrubber.

There is a lot of great info out there to find your problem. I had never even broke down a gun beyond removing the slide for cleaning and last week I replaced the hammer spring and firing pin spring on my p64. It was about 40 mins and a couple of curse words but it all worked out
