one complaint of these pistols are the small sights that make quick target acquisition difficult. wearing tri-focals, i sure relate to that. i've had the pictured pistol for 6 or 8 years, and couldn't be happier with it. it is just as i recieved it from a gunbroker auction for $125.00. since it is a natural pointer in my hands, this mod is a concealed carry dream;put the BB on and you're there.
also, this pistol has no import markings at all.any ideas?

Thats pretty cool. Did you remove the Rear Sight and how is the BB held in place?

If you think tri focals are rough try no line progessives. Please give us some more details how you got the bb to stay on.

I was out at the range today finishing the testing on the P 64 and the other shooters were wondering why I was moving my head up and down.....can you relate to that.....lol

i'd like to take credit for the mods, but it is just like i recieved it. who ever did the work probably used a mill to cut the channel out. if you look close you can see what's left of the rear sight.apparantly the sight was centered,milled out,and then re-blued. a beautiful job. the BB is from a shotgun that has a threaded stud. the slide was drilled and tapped so the BB could be screwed in flush. notice that the channel runs the entire lengh of the slide.
yep..i can relate...i'm now wearing tri-focals in progressive. some serious nodding goes on.
i thought all firearms imported into the country had to have the importers data permantly displayed on it. i'd really like to know why this one doesn't.

Typcally, yes. But if the pistol were brought in individually then it's not necessary. Also, if it was brought in before '68 I'm not sure if it was required.

I have a NIB Belgian Hi-Power that was imported individually, it lacks the importer markings.

Very interesting indeed. Almost looks like trench sights - I'd be interested in knowing who did the work.

Upon closer inspection of the P 64 Slide. The front sight is part of the frame. The would have to be ground off even and then a hole drilled to stake on a shot gun sight. I think staking it on to a well heated frame would hold it nicely. The rear notch is an insert that can me removed by simply driving or pressing it out of the dove tail in the slide.

If I get some time next week, I have an extra slide and I am going to give it a go. I just have to come up with a suitable shotgun front bb sight. I may also look into a fiber optic or night sight from a Glock.

He said they ground off the front sight and drilled and tapped it for the shotgun sight. Thing about this one is that it has the worst slide to frame fit I've seen on a P64.

I'd love to see more photos of this one.

I love that sight system. I think it would be super fast to shot fairly accurate and quick if needed.

i'm not the best at photography,but maybe these will help.the reason i know the front sight is threaded and not staked is it worked loose,so i put locktite on it and screwed it back in place;still tight. i haven't paid much attention to cosmetics and such.it has lead a hard life.all i do is shoot the heck out of it, clean and oil. bringing the sights on target is a breeze compared to my mac.

Thanks for the photos of your P-64. Kinda reminds me of an old model 10 S & W revolver that I had. No rear sight just the ramp with the glow in the dark front sight and it was accurate as my S & W model 66 which had target sights. Fast pick up and one of the smoothest triggers that I have ever pulled. An old Army .45 bullseye shooter MSG Bill Wheeler of Vt did all the tuning and trigger work. One gun that should have stayed in my nightstand. But being young, wanted one of his .45 Caspian 5" governement model hard ball guns for matches.

I would not mind finding a smith here that could do a similar job with the front sight and channel out the rear of the slide. As long as your P-64 is on target, feeds all fodder fed it and does it's job then it is a keeper. One that will do what it is meant to do, which is why they are such good carry pistols.
