My new P-64

I am really excited to have purchased my first P-64. It is a 1973 model. I have two magazines, and also purchased the Don Hume PPK holster for it. Got it at Military Gun Supply in Fort Worth for $199 + tax. I haven't had the opportunity to fire it, yet. Can't wait. I have taken it down and soaked it in parts cleaner for several hours. It was pretty gunked up at time of purchase. From my readings on this forum, I went ahead and ordered some springs from Wolff, and I'm thinking I'll get those in, and then go shoot. Should be here any day. I was under the impression that they changed the hammer in '72, but mine has the rounded one. Safety is tight, but I can work it. Seems to "lock in" and clicks at both positions. Guess that's a good thing. I also purchased a universal Hogue grip sleeve for it. I think one of the things I already love about this gun is that the purchase price allows you to go ahead and accessorize with the money you saved. I intend to carry this piece for CCW, as long as I am satisfied with the performance at the range.

jbradshaw3,

First welcome aboard, glad to have you with us...... congrats on you first P-64, be careful though, they multiply in the dark, as least they did for me and several others here.

As for the '73 with a round hammer, we have seen this before and it appears that some of these imports are either part guns or it may have just had the hammer changed out, so its not really unusual to fine a round hammer on a post '72 P-64, they are still the same pistol, very accurate and very reliable, so enjoy your new to you P-64 and we will be waiting for your range report.

Thanks. I will definitely let everybody know how it goes. Decided to go ahead and check out my safety plunger this morning. Polished it out a little with some emery cloth, and it seems to be working easier now. Spring looked good.

Thanks. I just got back from the range for the first time, and I'm very impressed with the accuracy of this pistol. I was shooting S&B ammo, with no hitches. I have replaced the mainspring with a Wolff 17lb, and the double action was more than manageable. Not quite as accurate on that first shot as I am on the SA, but that's how I am with every double action I own. Recoil spring is still original. I have the Wolff 22lb, but don't know that I need it. Didn't think the recoil was too bad. Wouldn't want to shoot the gun all day, but for carry purposes, it's fine. All in all, I'm very pleased with this pistol and plan to use it as my CCW.
