I picked up my P64 from J&G Friday and detail stripped it. It really was oily and dirty. While I had it all apart, I polished the sear and hammer and polished the feed ramp. In the process of putting it back together, the trigger return spring broke at the tail. So, I made a new spring and put it together with no further problems.

I don't know whether my polishing or the detail cleaning helped but the DA trigger pull is noticeably better although still stout. I'm going to try the alternate Wolff hammer springs. The SA trigger pull consistently measured 3.5 lbs which REALLY feels light after the gorilla grip DA pull!

My two were oil soaked but not dirty at all. The oil was clean with no grit anywhere inside or out.

Perhaps I overstated - it WAS really oily. There was some dirt, but not terrible - nothing a good cleaning didn't fix. The mags were pretty grimy, but the internals of the pisotl were mainly just oily. The pistol looks like new now.

My 1969 round hammer was oily inside the slide, no dirt. The mag was clean and in good shape. I cleaned them twice after soaking in mineral spirits. The extra mags were a totally different story, chock full of the dreaded cosmo.

My P64 just came from J&G day before yesterday. Not oily or dirty, but the mag was gritty too. It's my first P64, despite other forums that advised against buying one, I couldn't pass up this small and powerful weapon for the price J&G asked ($159 plus $10 handpick).

I shot it this morning for the first time at a gun range in Lorain, Ohio, and all I can say is "WOW!" This is quite a handful! Not a gun for "girly-men"! (The guy in the next stall was shooting a 22LR pistol with laser sights. He had his poodles in his truck outside!)

Despite my hands being sore now, "I LIKE IT!" My thumb got in the way of the slide and it gave me a nice reminder to hold it correctly. I'm surprised at how quickly I got used to it and the accuracy was way better than expected! This will become my personal carry pistol when I get my permit next month.
