I am new to the site and am looking for some information on finding the spring for the extractor plunger. Wollf springs may have it but I'm sure I will have to get the correct one from one of their misc. spring sets, since they don't sell them individually. Does anyone know which spring I need, is it metric, will I have to cut it, is there a gunsmith package of springs that I should have for further repairs?
The problem arised this weekend when shooting my P64 (totally stock unissued but I have put nearly 500 rounds through it). My cousin took the first shot and a jam occurred. I took the gun and cleared the jamb and noticed the extractor, extractor plunger and spring where gone. After looking for two days and sweeping the area with a newly purchased magnet, I located the plunger, extractor, but no spring.
Luckily I checked the gun prior to resumming fire, it may have been catastrophic taking another shot because of the gap created by the missing pieces, whew... I was able to find the spent fmj 94 gr silver bear casing, after looking at it, it seems that the primer strike was deeper than normal so I don't know whether it was a function of a poorly loaded round or something else. Again I have never had a problem prior to this occurance.
If someone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks and happy shooting.

these are the springs you need I think

ULTRA HEAVY DUTY COIL SPRING PAK need to cut to length
you could of had a pierced primer on the one that blow the extractor off never heard of that happening to bear ammo always with wolf ammo , lucky you found it

Thanks Norm, very useful information. Could you give me a rough estimate on length that I should cut the spring? I might just use Troy's pdf file for a rough estimate and then shorten as needed. If i cut it too short there should be more springs in that pack to make the correct length. I'm going to order the metric pack, I'm assuming that this is the pack to get. Thanks for the info. Now I have to determine if I can trust the pistol for ccw purposes or if it is relegated to a plinker. I noticed that the surface on the breech where the extractor impacts and slides over has several burrs now, it didn't before this occurance. I'm thinking of carefully filing these two burrs down and touching up with some cold bluing. I don't want the extractor to again fly away from me, I'm sure I wont have the same luck finding the parts as I had earlier this week. Again thanks for the guidance.

its been awhile since I had mine apart and they all could be different lengths, ,I think I would start by putting the spring in the hole and the end of the slot I think that's where I put my first cut

Thanks Norm, I changed springs, put the bugger back together, file the burrs, put on heavy leather Jacket, heavy duty leather gloves and a full face motorcyle helmet. Wrapped the gun in a plastic bag, ducked behind a tree, squeezed off a round and it worked flawlessly. Shot another 30 rds through it, no misfires or ejection issues. Sellier and Bellot only from now on. I would say to stay away from the silver bear ammo as well as the Wolf. Thanks for your help.
