It has been my experience that upon thoroughly cleaning this variation, 1964-71, that the DA trigger pull does improve quite a lot. If someone were wondering about installing the Wolff lesser-power trigger springs on this variation, I would suggest that you thoroughly clean your pistol, and then try the trigger to see if it might not be acceptable to you. Yes, the Wolff trigger springs do make a difference, but depending upon the pistol, and this variation in particular, I do believe that this First Variation has the best trigger , but it only becomes evident following a thorough cleaning and the lubrication. I particularly considered only buying this variation for that purpose and after working with my purchase for some time now, am finding that to be true. Does anyone else find this to be true as well?

Yelp, my '69 other than cleaning and using numerous times has a decent DA, and a excellent SA, however, I prefer the so called heavy DA pull on the P-64's as I carry with one in the tube and the safety off, I use it as I would a revolver. I have not changed anything on it except the grips, with many trips to the range the DA has lightened up, for me if it ain't broke don't fix it, and if it gets broke I just talk to Norm and go from there, but so far for over 2 yrs and probably 1500 rds through both my P-64's ['69 & '76] no problems.

Concerning the DA pull, I compare it to my S&W .38 Spl. snubnose. The P-64 DA has a pull through that is similar to my hammerless - you can pull it right up to the point of firing, and then stop (if you want) to aim, before pulling it the final distance. This helps steady the handgun even using DA, to help put the shot where you want it. This does take a little practice to get the feel of where that "point" in the action is, but its not too hard, and worth considering. Your point is well-taken.

On "harder triggers" the spring swap make this easier to do for some, but either way, it does exist.

Knew I'd read something about the trigger pull on the early models. Yes, the DA is almost acceptable except for that last 1/4 inch. I'm still installing the 18lbs. hammerspring. My pistol was made in 1969. I just received it from J&G yesterday. It was pretty clean to begin with, but will degrease it somemore. Solvent and freon should clean it up nicely.

I heard from rottenrick last night regarding his J&G P64 and the trigger pull. I just received mine yesterday and noticed that the hammer doesn't go back as far as the one my brother has, before falling. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this on their pistol?? I'm not sure that it would discharge a round with the short stroke that it currently has. Is this something that can be adjusted or repaired?
