I see. That makes perfect sense. Thanks again for your input. This is the first P64 that I've worked on. It's been a fun little project. I bought it for ccw at work. (I needed something discreet.... My XD is a little blocky to conceal under my work uniform.) I work in Detroit.... so going unarmed is NOT an option for me.
I know everyone has their own opinions... but I appreciate yours. You obviously know much more about this arm than I do. Thanks again.....!

Here's a little update on my "spring" project.
Happy mothers day.... hehehe...
Well, I'm on my way back from the cabin a little early this weekend so I can celebrate Mother's Day. I did manage to find a few hours to myself though, and I FINALLY got a chance to replace the 18# spring with the 19# spring. BINGO. 200 rounds (and one extremely sore hand) later.... a perfectly functioning weapon with no failures to feed, no ejection problems,
and no misfires. I tried four different brands of ammunition. Hornady Custom XTP, Winchester white box, Fiocchi, and Partisan. (All hardball except the Hornady.) The double action trigger pull is much improved over the original. I will admit the 18 pound spring was slightly better... but definitely not worth the possibility of a misfire. I checked all my brass... no light strikes, and no perforated or elongated primers. Oh, I should mention... the magazine stayed engaged on the last shot, and the slide stayed locked back. Sooooo.... for my particular P 64, the 19# spring looks like it's the ticket. I plan on shooting 1 or 2 magazines a month thru this weapon during the summer, so if I have any other issues I will be sure to let you all know. Thanks again everyone for the help and the information!

Another 50 rds at my local indoor range tonight. Perfect. Bought a Crossbreed for it while I was there. I now have my summer/work carry rig complete. So happy.... The only complaint I have at this point is not with the P-64.... it's with my big mits getting in the way. (I get "snakebit" every so often... usually when quickly drawing from concealment.... Just have to remember to get a proper grip.)

..... Kind of makes me wonder if anyone has tried to design grips for this little pistol with a pseudo/false beavertail to prevent this...... but alas, the point of having a small pistol is that it is..... small.

Is this
http://www.marschalgrips.com/hires-p64-bt/p64bt.html what you mean? I didn't see that particular model listed in his price list so you may have to ask him about it specifically.

Anyone (with big hands) have a set of these grips? These grips look like they might be exactly what I was picturing. I'm wondering if they work as well as they look like they will. Would really like to hear from someone before ordering..... Also, as this is a "work" gun that WILL take some abuse, I'd rather have plastic grips. (I can see nicks and gouges appearing in the wood...) But, beggers can't be choosers and it IS difficult for me to get a proper grip with the stock grips. Thank you 69murray for bringing these to my attention. I am going to contact for pricing.

Take a look at this post:

Also, it looks like Dennis Marschal, himself, has posted here concerning the bevertail model in the past:
viewtopic.php?p=37862#p37862 (last post in that thread was February and he indicated he was still working on it, though).
