Safety Operation

I find the disassembly/reassembly of the safety/firing pin components to be relatively easy. However, I think stripping Ruger MKII's are easy as well and a lot of people hate doing them. Once you experiment with it a bit, you'll catch on. I put the safety between safe/fire. Push the firing pin down with a scribe/thin punch with one hand while holding the slide. Use a common screwdriver (slotted) with the other and lightly pry the safety out. Once it gets over the firing pin, you can get rid of the punch and cup your hand over the back of the slide. Keep pushing the safety out the side. I haven't had the safety detent launch out on me and the firing pin can be kept under control with your hand cupped around it.

Anyway, I used fine sandpaper to polish the area that the detent (plunger) rides on, you can spot it because there's a line from each indent. I also filed a little on the area of the indent where the plunger exits the indent so it has more of a ramp effect and doesn't rely exclusively on the cone shape on the plunger to compress the spring. This made my safety relatively easier to engage when drawing the pistol.

Similar issue with the Safety mechanism: this 1967 model works well unless the hammer is cocked. When cocked, it sticks bad at the point where it should release the hammer. I see a little indication of wear at the point where the Safety Catch engages the little horseshoe shaped part (Disconnector) that releases the hammer.
Also, anybody know what the shape of a new Safety Detent is at the point it contacts the Safety Catch? Mine is so worn I can't tell from it; was it originally round or flat at say a 45 degree angle similar to the Trigger Guard Plunger? :)

Mine was originally at a slight point. Think of the tip of a ballpoint pin. About the same shape. I had another detent that was more rounded, must have been filed some time in the past, I use it since it makes the safety easier to move.
