How to protect hearing from the loud noise at the time of the shooting? How to choose the right earplugs for shooting?

I have an old pair, from the 70;s, of a rubber ear plug with a metal baffle in side that allows you to hear and carry on a conversation w/o shouting but blocks the boom. Norton Sonic II.

Not sure if you can get them in the USA anymore but here are some from Britain.

Mine can get uncomfortable after about 30 mins of continuous use because of the metal "baffle"

I have a set of those too, Curly. I am surprised at how well they have held up after 40 years. I also carry a set of tethered ear plugs and a headset in my bag for shooting my Mosin.

Thank you so much, guys. Do you have any idea about electronics and generic earplugs?
