Trouble with Safety Catch?

Post by jreed1980 »

I am having issues I think with the safety. I am finding when I put the safety in the down position/safe, and I flip it up/fire position, I am finding that when I pull the trigger....it just travels back just like it's still on safe. I can't even pull the hammer back to engage. I should be able to pull the trigger then in double action. I own a couple of these pistols, and the other does not do it. I have to play around with it to get it to work. I thought maybe it's the safety catch, so I put one on from another P-64 and still the same issue.....any ideas?

It's not the safety. You are having a problem with your disconnector for sure, maybe also your sear or trigger spring. With the slide off, you should push on the disconnector and watch that it springs back into place. Also check that the trigger bar also moved up back into position. Since you have two or more, compare this action to that of a working one. this should help narrow down what is wrong.

On mine it was the disconnector. It was funny, I could put another slide on it & it worked fine. If there was no mag in it, it also worked fine. I don't remember what I did to fix it.

I just remembered what I did. There was a spot inside the slide that the disconnector was rubbing on. You could see it. I just filed the spot down a little & it worked fine after that.

+1 what weasel said.
Shoot first, Shoot straight, and hit what you're aiming at, if you can do these things and have six rounds of ammo, you'll have two thirds more than you need to prevail.
