Hello All,
New member and new to me P-64 owner. Stumbled on mine at a Gander Mt it St Augustine, FL. It's a 1969 in "good" condition. It has some holster wear on the muzzle, but other wise looks fine for a 43 yr old surplus pistol. After cleaning and ordering Wolff springs, (not installed until after I fired it) took to the range. I took one box Brown Bear and one box Silver Bear. Fired the first round D/A and it was as expected quite a hard pull and the round landed about 4.5" low and left. I kind of expected this, but the other 5 were quite an acceptable group. I do carry and shoot a S&W BG380 so the D/A action and recoil was not way out of line for me.
After two mags of Brown Bear I loaded a mag of Silver Bear. I found that in 50 rds of Silver Bear, in the same magazine, I had 4 stovepipes. Each occurred in either the 4th or 5th round in the magazine. ??? The 50 rounds of Brown Bear were absolutely flawless.
Somewhere near the 70 to 75 round range (or out 100 fired) I was totally amazed. This pistol is amazingly accurate. I shot a 6rd S/A group at 24ft that was literally one ragged hole. (I will post photo when I figure out how) I have never done that before with a pistol.
I do carry a BG380 in a Remora Holster as well as an Old Faithful leather/kydex. The P-64 fits amazingly snug and safely in each. I will not however carry the P-64 until I feel more comfortable with the safety (it operates backward from the BG380) and I fire it quite a bit more.
I was able to order Brown & Silver Bear 9x18 two weeks ago, however that too seems to have dried up. Wonder if DHS is after it too??
Thank you all for a very informative forum and I look forward to learning and sharing more about this amazing little firearm. I feel I will be on the lookout for another one now perhaps a mid 1970s triangle hammer vintage. Somehow one does not seem to be like it will be enough. :)
Regards,

Welcome to the forum.

I would disassemble and clean that mag and compare it to another mag that works OK to ensure the spring is in the right way.

Hello,

New guy here--I have a P-64 on the way. I got it online at J&G I think and shipped to my brother who is a heavy-duty gun guy (I'm in the middle of a military move and had no address, and I wanted him to look it over and replace the mainspring to lessen the DA pull). I also have a CZ82 I just got from J&G before moving and haven't fired it yet. Just relocated from RI to Northern VA, so I'm pretty happy about my expanded shooting opportunities. My new place is just down the way from the NRA HQ range.

I'm looking to get a couple more of the 9X18 surplus handguns, both for their relative inexpensive prices and for their concealability. Makarov os on my list, but I don't see a tremendous amount of info about the FEG guns like the PA-63 and the R61...

Anyway, a lot of great info here--thanks!

Thanks! Also, I was wrong--I got the gun from Classic (not J&G). They still have available according to the website: http://www.classicfirearms.com/c-r-eligible

My brother said mine looks almost new!

Hi
Just joined the board. I'm in the Los Angeles area. My P64 is in jail right now, counting down the days until I can pick it up. The board seems like a great resource for everything P64...already learned a lot. Hopefully will pick up a few more handguns that shoot the 9mm Mak round.

Welcome to the forum Ray.

You will have to post some pics after the jail break.

As you are in Cali I suppose the P64 passed the drop test if it is legal to purchase?

I was wondering in another post if it was tested for that originally in Poland.

Yeah, i've read about that drop test too. not sure about it being originally performed by Radom.

Thanks for the hospitality. I got the pistol the other day from Wideners. 1974 is the date stamp.
I cleaned it up, but have as yet to shoot it. I did order a set of springs and will be trying those this week.

I have been carrying the S&W Shield in .40SW, but I don't think I will be using that much from now on. The P64 is thinner, and just has a been feel. I wore it all day yesterday in the Shield's IWB holster and took it to church this morning. It just melts into my body.

I put some white nail polish on the front blade, and I'm anxious to take this to the range.
I'll let you know my range report.
