Slide Lock Questions from New P-64 Owner

Post by mychoads »

Hi,

I am waiting for my P-64 from SOG to arrive in a couple of days and wanted some clarity on a question I had regarding the P-64's slide lock design. When the slide locks back on an empty mag, since there is no external release it is my understanding that its necessary to remove the magazine, pull back and release the slide foward, change the mag and then rack the slide to chamber a round. Is this correct? Anyone have any tricks to simplify/speed up the changing of mags?

This seems like kind of a pain when changing magazines (as is the euro style mag release), which isn't a big deal for me as I intend to use the P-64 as a summer CCW piece due to the CZ-82 I currently carry double stack, thick grip printing when I wear t-shirts.

Can't wait to pick it up friday, clean out the gunk, throw in the wolf springs I ordered and take it to the range. Any tips/trick for a new owner would be welcome.

You're adding an extra step.
With the slide locked to the rear, remove empty mag, insert fresh mag, pull back and release slide. Now you're ready to go.

Welcome aboard. :hi:

^^ What he said.

Au contraire, the heel magazine release is absolutely ideal for a pocket carry gun.

The Desantis nemesis is great for a P64 pocket carry.

what size? viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1646&start=0

I see that this poster recommends the desantis nemesis for the Sig230. does that one fit the best or is there another size that you guys recommend?

I got an uncle mikes' number 4 pocket holster and it fits fine. Just barely sits deep enough in the pocket though due to the generous piping around the bottom edge. I also trimmed a stiff foam piece to the contour of the gun to keep it from slopping around in the holster.

That's the one I use. They say that it also fits the Walther PPK/S.

I'm trying to work on a technique to drop an empty magazine and insert a new one while keeping the target in my sites. I'll update when I have something worked out.
