How a P-64 compares to a PPK

Post by lcberlin »

A friend left his Walther PPK with me for a few days, so I snapped some photos so that y'all can see what they look like next to each other.

Enjoy!

How a P-64 compares to a PPK

I say there is a big difference. One is 9x18 and the other is 9x17. The 9x18 Makarov is .364 in bullet diameter and more potent than the 9x17 ..354 diameter bullet size. That's why the P 64 kicks like a rented mule but that's a good thing in my book.

I was speaking upon aesthetic appearance, just to put that out there...

I agree with you on the caliber. I was referring to the physical dimensions. I have read several posts to the effect of "how close is the P-64 to the PPK" and from my point of view, if a holster fits a PPK it will definitely fit a P-64.

Might want to double check that chamber before handling that pistol (isn't that chamber indicator sticking out?). No such thing as an accidental discharge...

The P 64 is smaller and slimmer in my opinion as well. I know this for sure, it is by far a better pistol than the mess S&W has made out of the beloved PPKS

The PPK is a nice looking gun. Much of the time I carry a Sig P232 that is just a little longer than the PPK and P64. The Sig and PPK use a 380 which has a case one mm shorter and bullet a little less in diamiter than the Makarov. I feel safe when with the P64 and the feeling is the same when with the Sig P232.

Both are great pistols. The human body is intolerant to being struck by projectiles traveling at around a 1,000 feet a second. .38/.357. 9 mm Kurz, 9mm Luger are at .357 in od diameter. The Makarov is at .364 in od diameter. The Russians did this to prevent use by other Military forces. Getting hit with any of them will result in a bad day.

I really like my P64 and PPK/S but when just running errands I am not so concerned about the finish wear that is put on my P64 as I am with my Walther. Both are blued and both are great little pistols.

I am not sure what that has to do with a P 64/PPK comparison. :?: I am caring of all my pistols and restore their finish wear all the time. It is real easy with a hair dryers and any one of the cold blue commercial products available.

boomer: I thought the stiff kick of the P-64 was due to Newton's third law. Takes 25# to pull the trigger, so it kicks your palm with 25# (Har.)
