Just traded into an R61

Post by erich »

I used to have an SMC-380, but it was one of the steel-framed ones and I eventually traded it off . . . and regretted having done so. The thing was utterly reliable and was quite accurate - one hole at 30 feet.

Today a friend traded me an R61 (Hun military gun the size of a PPK, 9x18 Mak, very few imported in the early '90s) for an old WWII gun that I had - we both came away happy. I ran it out to the range and found that the thing is utterly reliable, much lighter than my SMC was, but not nearly so accurate. (At least with the two ammo types I tried - I have several others to try later.) First shot (DA) goes precisely where the sights are aimed, but the later SA shots (and the SA pull is quite good) string vertically to the right.

Anyhow, I know that different guns like different ammo, so I'll wring it out later. I probably should post some pix as well - I'm just happy to have this neat little East Bloc military gun. :)

erich,

Good looking R61, and good to see you back on here, and as always really enjoy your comments and photo's, thanks for sharing. There are a few others here that have a R61, hopefully they will add to this thread, the R61 to my understanding is a fine pistol.

Thanks, gents! Hi Papabear . . . I'm pretty pleased with this gun. :) Believe it or not, I was trying to trade into a P-64, but I'm happy with the R61.

Here is my R61.

It has a PA-63 frame with the pregnant grip and extra round. Large frame, short barrel, short slide.

Kind of like a PPKS

Apparently the pic got lost in the upgrade.

These are my favorites of the non PM guns. Small light and fit in a PPK pocket holster. A handful to shoot repeatedly but good basic pocket defense. Enjoy.

Same here, the 9x18 bug bites pretty hard. Sometimes i feel like a man on a mission. I must own at least one example of every handgun chambered in 9x18.

Fine looking R61s gents, i especially like the crest stamped on the slide.
Great looking FEGs, thanks for sharing.
