OT - Other Pistols

Well, tell me guys--does it have much knockdown, or not? I've heard it both ways...saw one at a gunshop here once for about $150, I was impressed by what might most tactfully be called its "rugged good looks"--LOL! But it looked like one of those plain-but-reliable things that take my fancy over the more refined (not to mention pricey) items...

The standard ammunition for the CZ-52 is the 7.2-x25 Tokarev round. It fires a .30 caliber FMJ bullet at speeds of well over 1400 fps. At that size and at that speed, I would suppose it's a lot like stabbing someone with an icepick. It should make a very small hole going in and another small hole going out (and go on breaking windows down the street...). Think of the third Indiana Jones movie. I'll bet the Tokarev round could punch through three men or perhaps even more...!

However, there have been reports of the Tokarev round causing real havoc on any bones with which it comes in contact. Shattering ribs, breaking pelvices -- that sort of thing. Besides, for us non-military types, there is hollowpoint ammunition available that I would suppose would open right up at such high velocities.

Sorry all I can add is conjecture. I've never seen anybody shot with this round, nor have I ever shot anybody with it myself. So I am just repeating what I have heard from others.

Doesn't seem to be different from any other .30 caliber military round.

Well, you can always do what I did, get two and convert one to 9mm for the wide selection of ammo. Keep the original Tok-chambered one for noise making at the range. Hollow point ammo is few and far between (and expensive) It's a little large for CCW anyway, IMHO.

Yes, I much prefer my present selection for CC...but I found in the right clothes I can carry a larger weapon IW-SOB (is that enough acronyms yet?? LOL!). Seriously, I saw a posting in another forum somewhere, the guy was recommending the CZ52 for "packing", ie carrying in the woods to use on attacking bears and wolves and such--and I thought that small, fast round wouldn't do much against a bear...I like that "icepick" analogy, I think it expresses my thoughts on the matter well...

I considered the 9mm conversion. I think the way to do it would be as you describe -- get two pistols! I would always want to have one available in 7.62x25.

Hollow point ammo is a bit rare. However, I had found several places that offer it. Makarov.com is one of them. They have an offer of 300 rounds of JHP for about $75. I don't think that is too outrageous for ammunition I wouldn't hesitate to use for self defense.

In terms of CCW the CZ-52 is a full size service pistol. It's roughly the same size as a 1911 Government Model .45; so it is a bit large to conceal, but it can be done with just a little effort.

I have considered carrying it myself. The Tokarev round is most impressive -- especially in one loading I have: a 95 grain Hornady JHP that skips along at 1750 fps. Unfortunately, the gun is set up for right hand use only, and I am a lefty. So I'll have to settle for something else.

Another nice thing about the 7.62x25mm round is it will punch through light armored vests even with lead core ammo... How do I know this??? My buddy (a deputy sherriff) got one of the new synthetic spider-weave vests to replace his old one, and graciously donated the old one to us for testing... ;D ;D ;D S&B Tok rounds punch right through both sides of a level II vest...

Very impressive...

I have always been very impressed with the 7.62x25 Tok round! It is a real screamer in speed. I guess this is what makes it so good about penetrating a vest. I just hope the "bad folks" don't figure this out with the price of the pistols being so low!

Well guys, I am going off the deep end! I just bought another Luger. I should have it sometime by the end of next week. Here is a photo of the jewel attached. This is a 1914 DWM Luger, that was provided to the Weimar Police, and then a "Sear Safety" added during the Third Reich. This pistol has seen service in WWI, Wiemar Era during the tumultuous time between the wars, and then served in WWII. Man, if it could only talk!

Yeah, I've often thought the same thing about a lot of my guns, but the only ones I'd fully comprehend would be my American and Japanese surplus stuff without a translator... ;D ;D ;D

I know a bit of German (thanks, dad) and a little bit of Chinese and Russian... I'd dearly love to learn Finnish, as it's unrelated to any other language, and just seems like a cool language...

went to LAKELAND gun show yesterday didn't see one P-64 in the whole show even SHONA was out of them but she had some real nice CZ-52's they almost look mint , I have had new grips & ammo for some time now been reading about the CZ-52 for 2 or3 month's now but now bought one

it was a suncoast show, its a one room show next month the LAKELAND RIFLE SHOW it's so much better two rooms lot better price s's ,the only reason for me to go was to talk to Shona about the CZ-52 and to buy one , and talk people about the p-64 and put in a plug for this forum but SHONA was out of p-64's
