Star Modelo Super 9mm Largo

Olympus--The 9mm Luger, which I imagine is the regular 9mm that you are talking about is a 9X19 mm round. The 9mm Largo is 9X23; however, it is not to be confused with the 9mm Win Mag, which is the same size. The Win Mag is way more powerful and will probably blow up anything chambered for a Largo. That is my understanding. Guys, please correct me if I am wrong. Be sure to double check in CARTRIDGES OF THE WORLD.

Yes, 9x19 is what I was referring to.

Star Modelo Super 9mm Largo

I have two Destroyer Carbines in 9 Largo, fun little toys, hard to come by. Easy to reload for and accurate. Go here for more information on 9 Largo. It's a neat cartridge, been shooting it for years. I get brass from Star-line. If you can find a copy of GUNS, November 2005, I have that Destroyer they have an article on. You can use Colt 38 Super magazines in them if you cut a notch in the magazine body so it can lock using the carbines magazine catch. They are the same, only how they lock in place is different. You can get Detroyer mags from SARCO for about $6.00 each. I bought thousands of the corrosive and non corrosive ammo from SARCO also.

One more thing, .38 Super is not interchangable with 9 Largo, some say it is, .38 Super is a lot hotter and uses a semi rimmed case. 9 Largo is rimless and is not loaded to the same pressures as .38 Super, so dont go sticking it in a 9 Lago pistol.

There are two things that affect the interchange.
Dimensions:
9mm BB/Largo is a 23mm tapered rimless case.
.38 ACP/Super is a 23 mm straight semirimmed case.
The straight vs taper part seldom makes much difference (I saw one guy to post that he preferred 9x23 brass for loading 9mm Steyr, which is a straight case.), but there are some Largo guns with too narrow a breechface for the semirim.

.38 ACP is a little lighter load than Largo but hard to find. Super is a good deal hotter load than Largo and some of those Spanish guns are pretty soft. The Astras are probably of the best steel, but then they are blowback. And a real Bergman would be too valuable to take chances with.

9 mm Largo 30,000 CUP

38 Super +P 36,500 CUP
.38 Super 33,000 CUP

Spain's Destroyer: a teensy-weensy Mauser.

I wish I would have bought a destroyer carbine back in 1993-94 when they flooded the country along with Star mdl. Supers. The Destroyer carbines were only $100. or so,now when you can find one, they are $300.+
I have a Star Super made in 1951,and absolutely love it.-Very accurate gun, more accurate than the Glock 19 I used to have.
CCI/Speer loaded the 9mm Largo rd in 124 gr. HP,and FMJ back in 93-94 to meet the demand for all the guns coming in. I was lucky enough to find 4 boxes of Speer factory loads on Gunbroker at a real reasonable price. That was in 2006 before the ammo shortage.
I'm presently loading the 9mm Largo rd. with Unique which btw was the ONLY pistol powder I could find these days.Small pistol primers,9mm Largo brass, and even the bullets are very hard to find these days.
