Fave Nightstand Gun
Fave Nightstand Gun
I'm putting this thread here because I expect a variety of answers--but I have to say that for me, the P64 fits the bill perfectly. I leave it with a chambered round, safety off, like I do my Mak--it's still reasonably safe due to the rebounding hammer. If suddenly and fearfully awakened, I have only to remember to pull the trigger if necessary--no safety to take off, no racking the slide. But the trigger is stiff enough (I left the original springs in) that it is highly unlikely I would pull it "all the way" and fire a shot by accident in a semi-sleep-befuddled state. Waht do you guys think--what is your choice for a nightstand gun?
Fave Nightstand Gun
I love my p64 and my mak for concealed carry, as well as my colt commander - but my nightstand gun is a Browning Hi Power. 13 in the mag, one in the pipe, cocked and locked. Flip the safety, apply 1.8 lbs pressure and BOOM!

Mossberg 500 Cruiser, with a Streamlight M3 tactical blinding light with the pressure switch on the forend, loaded with Fiocchi Law Enforcement 000 Buckshot for the first three, and Fiocchi Law Enforcement Slugs for the remaining four.
Nothing in the pipe, as the scariest thing anyone who is stupid enough to enter my home uninvited will ever hear, is the sound of the rack just before they see the light.
BOOM
I call her the House Cannon

I was going to say my favorite is Taurus "tracker" .357 magnum (light) but the House Cannon suddenly sounds so much better!

michaelap Thanks!
Does the Mossberg really qualify for this thread? It has a pistol grip, but it's not anything that actually fits in the nightstand.....
It sits next to the nightstand and can act as a peaceful flashlight if a mouse happens by. I live in the woods. I have been watching the same red tailed hawk for the last three hours. We have nesting bald eagles within walking distance of town.
In the nightstand is a fully modified 1975 P-64 with Dennis grips loaded with ball corrosive surplus 9x18 eastern block stuff that I shoot all the time. If I would ever have to pull it inside my house it would be single action, one in the pipe, ready to go.
I don't live in a high crime area, but I grew up in Philadelphia, hence the woods.
Who has the biggest hand cannon? 50BMG 2" Snubby?

Nice Trench Gun Norm!
You should attach the bayonet just to complete the big scary gun that the bad guy will never forget....for the last five seconds of his miserable life.

mike1,
Thank you for posting your '48 Pre-10 M&P, to me they are a classic. I have a couple of the 4" Victories, a Lend Lease Victory 5" and a '55 Pre-10 M&P.
For a lot of years I kept a S&W 3" M13-3 [.357] at my bed side till one night I had to use it because of a break in, I fired two rounds, first shot missed and went through the wall of my home and through the privacy fence on my patio and wound up in a tree in my neighbors yard, second shot didn't miss. Ever since then I kept a .38 of some type until in late '80's I bought a Colt 70 series .45acp. I have since kept some type of .45 at my bed side, today its a Taurus PT145 [10+1] DAO, for me a DAO auto is the same as a revolver. I own 9 .45acp's, all are SA and when loaded they all are in condition 1.
I also keep a Remington 870 20" 12ga loaded in my bedroom closet.

Nice Pre-10's.
I have been looking for one, but I am pickey. I want a Victory in nice shape. Some of you have them, but that is the next revolver I am interested in. Pickey means factory barrel, grips, and finish.
Great photos!

fritzhund,
I know what you mean, I'm a tad picky too and it took me a while to find a Victory of my liking, and also I wanted a Colt Commando the counter part to Victory and after looking for a couple years I finally found one last year. Both are fine shooters but I don't shoot them that much due to wanting to keep them mostly as collectibles as well as my '55 Pre-10.
