best trigger weight

Post by creature »

I am ready to change out my trigger spring because the standard weight is awful. I have read all the other threads regarding this, but there seems to be no general consensus as to the best weight. I plan on always carrying my P64 in a holster.

Should I go with 16, 17, 18 or 19lbs (and why)?

Wolff doesn't make a 16 # spring in the P-64 and the 17# is to light try the HAMMER SPRING PAK

one of these will be just right

HAMMER SPRING PAK - reduced power, contains 1 each of 18, 19 and 20 pound reduced power hammer springs, allowing adjustment of the firearm to individual requirements.
Stock No. 32358.....$ 9.00

INDIVIDUAL HAMMER SPRING
Reduced Power...: 17, 18, 19 and 20 Lb.
Factory Standard : 24 Lb. (Reference only - no factory spring available)
Extra Power........: None Available

You can go with the lightest hammer spring that provides reliable ignition with your choice of carry ammo. P-64s vary, some will tolerate a 16# spring, others will misfire. I think most on this board use either the stock spring or one in the 18# - 20# range.

MY personal preferance Wolff replacement springs are the 20lb recoil spring and the 18lb mainspring.

Be advised that when changing the recoil spring Wolff also includes a replacement firing pin spring that should be replaced at the same time.

That can be real fun the first time you do it.

Wolff supplies a firing pin spring with the purchase of a new main spring? Why? When changing out the trigger spring, is it necessary to change the firing pin spring too??
