wolff spring question

i have recieved my new spring (17#) from wolff it is about a half inch longer. do i shorten it to the proper length ?

thats way too long, im assuming you are talking about the main spring if so you probably should have got a heavier one anyway i have done buisness with wolf and have always been pleased. I would e-mail them and see if they would take it back, get a hammer spring while youre at it i have a #20 main spring and a #18 hammer and am very happy with the setup.

try the 17# hammer spring , it might be longer to compensate for mag drop ( DO NOT CUT SPRING )

the P-64 doesn't have a main spring in it , its not a 45 auto and its not a clock

well, I have shortened my hammer spring they came rediculously long (one of them did..) for that one I had to cut five loops .. I was doing it one at a time to make it smooth for the trigger and stout for the mag... if you do be v. careful... do it only if you have to...

Howdy y'all,

Wolffe Spring question on the mag springs. Went to their site noticed they don't carry any for da P-64, did see they mag springs for the Makarov. Will they work seein' they're both 9X18? Know they are different horses, but can they be tweeked to fit, or does anybody got another source?

WOLFF just started making recoil springs for the P-64 it will possibly be 2 to 4 months before we get any mag springs not much call for them yet

Why can't the P64 have a mainspring. The "mainspring that fits in the mainspring housing of a 1911 makes the hammer move just like the spring in question does on the P64? I do agree that hammer spring would never get confused with recoil spring, but still it seems that the name would still be correct.

Back on topic ... the Wolff replacements will be considerably longer than the factory originals ... I would not cut any springs that Wolff sells you to fit your P64 ... they should already be the right length, even if they are not the same as the originals. If you cut the spring, you are changing it and ALL BETS ARE OFF!!!

You can call a hammer spring a main spring all you want and I will still know what your talking about
but there are others out there that still call a recoil spring a main spring so I am going by what the manual says for P-64 to keep it simple .

When I got replacement hammer spring/recoil spring, my hammer spring was longer too. But if you look closely you'll see that the original seems to be compressed more than the replacement spring. It took as few attempts by simply compress the new Wolf spring and it works fine! I'm sure over time the replacement spring will look like the original.
