I don't think it's the detent. I mean, it's not perfect, but the safety lever moves fine when the slide is off the weapon. I think it's the fulcrum of the disconnector that the safety pushes against.
Now, I can't get deep into the trigger. I would take it apart, but without a video on how to put it together, I wouldn't risk it. As you know, the disconnector, (or what is labeled as such in the documents I've seen) is just in front of the hammer on the right side of the weapon. It requires a fair amount of force to depress. As the safety lacks any significant mechanical advantage (no leverage) the resulting force requirement is simply too much.
I'd like to get down into the trigger to see what is going on.... I suspect that isn't going to happen.
