FEG RK59 question
FEG RK59 question
I bought an FEG RK59 several years ago in excellent condition that I would like to carry because of its size and weight. I have read the frame is all aluminum, with no titanium like the R61 and later FEGs so it is softer and wears much faster. I fired six rounds for function testing. Don't know total rounds through it. I would like to practice with it if I choose to carry it. Does anyone shoot theirs? Should have bought a SMC-918 when they were available.
Re: FEG RK59 question
Bear in mind that there's just a fraction of a percent of Ti in the R61 and later guns' aluminum frames. If it were me, I'd shoot it on the sparing side and use some of the rounds that have been documented to be on the wimpier side: the new Fiocchi 9x18Mak or the old Norinco green box stuff. They're no more feisty than .380s . . .
Here are some data from rounds I chrono'd through my R61 on one range visit (54°F, pretty calm, sunny, 20% humidity, 5950'>sea level):
Brown Bear 94 gr FMJ: M 993.1/ES 53.04/SD 21.35
Wolf 95-gr FMJ: M 1021/ES 59.80/SD 23.32
Silver Bear 94-gr FMJ: M 975.6/ES 117.0/SD 42.86
Fiocchi 95-gr FMJ: M 961.1/ES 41.93/SD 15.39
S&B 95-gr FMJ: M 1035/ES 77.67/SD 39.00
Fed American Eagle 95-gr FMJ: M 1025/ES 70.96/SD 26.81

Re: FEG RK59 question
If I go with a wimpier round I might as well carry my SMC 380. Thanks for the info. It is only 1% titanium but thats all that is needed from what I've read.erich wrote:Bear in mind that there's just a fraction of a percent of Ti in the R61 and later guns' aluminum frames. Re: FEG RK59 question
I occasionally shoot mine but it is mostly a curiosity in my Mak cal collection. I do have a SMC-918 that I shoot but am always on the lookout for another. I have never seen a BR-61 listed on GB yet but maybe someday.

Re: FEG RK59 question
Picked up a BR-61 several years back, it is the least accurate of my 9x18 pistoles and as accurate as my East German and CZ 82 pistoles are, my Feg PA63 is still my absolute favorite.
Getting back to the question of your RK59 and what ammo to shoot, some where here at the forum there is an in depth compilation of 9x18 manufacturers and the stats of thier products. Dick Funk, NORMSUTTON or papabear should be able to help you out with where it is.

Re: FEG RK59 question
I have used a couple of hundred rounds in my RK59 9x18 and more in one chambered for .380. All the former rounds were S&B milsurp and Norinco, all 95g or less. No problems but they are a bit stout on the hands. I much prefer the SMC918.
